Garbage in Garbage out - soda is garbage

Amazing what changing your diet and a little exercise can do for people's health.

We have had threads on this before but I cut out most sugar (was mostly from 4 cups of coffee), starting running 4 days a week, no fried foods and switched from beer (had a gout incident) to vodka club.  In less then a year, lost 30lbs and no longer needed to take a cholesterol pill or gout med (I take a tart cherry pill everyday).

I look and feel better then I have in 20 years and hit a bunch of personal goals - main one was to not be any medication when I turned 50 - now, almost 52 and drug free Smile

Cut way back on Pop/soda (only maybe once a week or so) started walking everyday and I am down 18 pounds as of this morning.  I feel amazing I never would drink the diet garbage but am drinking primarily water now and feel great.

I was a 3-7 cans of Pepsi drinker through my teenage years and into my 20's. Never a diet drinker. I switched to Monster Rehab (lemonade) and completely stopped drinking pop entirely.  One in the morning, one late into the afternoon at work. I drank them slowly enough to never have room for soda.

One night, maybe 5 years ago or so now, I ended up in the ER with some arm numbness/tingling in my fingers and some pain radiating from my chest to my arm pits. The doctor chalked it up to the Energy drinks; a few days later I passed a 10 minute treadmill heart test without any issue; even made it the whole 10 minutes running lol... no issue since...

I lasted maybe 4 weeks before starting the "just one" spiral ... up until about 6 months ago* actually. And i'm doing good. I lost my *** damn front tooth on an apple, and after a couple trips to the dentist, I tried throwing Mio water mixers at the problem. They were presently satisfying enough to get beyond habits and urges. Early, i was hording them like a crack fiend.

It's still artificial sweeteners and some junk, but i'm well past that feeling of the whole day is going to suck without a soda or an energy drink in the frigde...

* Summer is making it tough though! It's arguably not even about the flavor/taste at that point... it's liquid refrigeration. Smooth, liquidy refridge---- wait, this threads about not drinking it...

I used to drink the stuff as a kid.  Then, as one of 4 boys, my Dad said "you guys are drinking me out of house and home.  From now on, you each get an allotment, and when it's gone, you buy it yourself".

I was about 10-12 years of age.  I hoarded my stash so long, I lost the taste for it.  Now, I have about one soft drink a week - never diet (for that little, I figure, might as well go all out for taste).

I have a coke if a I have an upset stomach, and that tends to help me - but that is once every 3 months.

I mainly have drank water for years....now if I could cut out the ice cream and processed foods, then I'd be on to something!

If you want to keep your car running smoothly, you keep good oil in it.

If you want to keep your body running smoothly you fill it with Water.

Nice job!  I used to work for Pepsi. And next to Pepsi itself Mountain Dew is the worst soda to drink, not that any are good for you  but growing up MD was my favorite too. I may have had 5 in the past 10 years and even less Pepsi.  Stay away from Pepsi!!!!

The average adult is supposed to get no more then 35 grams of sugar a day and most is already in our foods.

1 20oz bottle of Coke is 65 grams
1 20oz bottle of Mountain Dew is 77 grams

ordering a "Large" at fast food is 32 ounces and well over 100 grams of sugar which is enough for 3 days!!!  Wonder why we have an obesity problem?

I saw a show a couple years ago about an area down South where they had a Mountain Dew problem where low-income/poor parents were giving the babies MD.  These kids all had major dental problems.  Some of these area's had poor quality drinking water but still our education on nutrition and health is something that each individual and parent needs to take control over. Certainly the soft drink, pharma etc aren't going to advocate for prevention and good eating habits.

So if you are a parent or Grandparent put the nix on Soda for the kids and really water down the other sweet drinks.  It will be a good healthy habit passed on to your next generation.

OK, let me jump down from my soap-box Smile

I've been overall drinking less alcohol lately, but I seem to give into soda pop more easily throughout the week. Nothing crazy, maybe 4-6 cans a week (more if I go,out to eat), but it makes my mouth dry out quickly. I can tell it is harming my body. When my current supply runs out at home, I am planning on just stocking Powerade or Gatorade Zeros.
