Glad to hear your good news. I didn't know the Florida market for IT was so depressed; very hot in Minnesota.

It's absolutely brutal...any other market and I'm easily in low six figures...

Congrats. That's awesome. It's always a test but it pays off in the end.

Awesome, man.  Just awesome.  The wife and I are really happy for you; it's been a long time coming.

Good Luck!

I just got a position after over a year of being unemployed.  I was with that company for about 12 years so I got a decent severance.  So much severance (over 17K) that the State of Pennsylvania phases out unemployment down to zero if you get more then around 17K.  I have been employed and paying into unemployment since I was sixteen (not sure if they don;t start collecting at 18 but anyway?)  and the first time I ever needed unemployment it was not there for me.  I get over 17K is a nice severance that most don't get but it also reflects the income I was making and the small fortune I paid in taxes every year - I had a stretch of about 7 or 8 years were I paid over 40K in taxes.

The kicker - they took unemployment tax out of my final lump severance check!

Anyway, good jobs are very hard to find anywhere.  I tried to start a small business with a partner that fell apart when the partner split and I needed his expertise - I was the start-up, finance and sales guy he was the one with the contacts.  I was able to write-off a ton of the start-up cost as losses against my severance check taxes so I found a way to get back at Sam (not sleeves but uncle, even though unemployment is State).

Oh well, good luck to those looking and to those about to start a new venture!  Right now I was supposed to have a hire date/letter for 9/1 but that is being pushed back at least a week maybe more..yikes.  The day I went for the final interview the company merged and has now pushed everything back..so still scary but I am about 90% sure I have the job....fingers crossed Smile

Ouch.. Yup been there done that, I was at a company for 16 years, was the plant manager, tough finding work in that area as it is, never mind the pay cuts, if I get this job, it will be close to 30% less than what I was making, but thats 100% more than 0.
Thank you for the well wishes, and best of luck to you too!!

Lol. I hear you but whatever is going on in your universe, the experience is serving to stretch you in some way. You can handle more than you think.
