So many questions in Charlottesville... - Guest - 08-18-2017 Kind of a shit show.. Tim Cook blasts Trump this week, Trumps forced to disband his North American Business Leadership Committee after they begin leaving in-mass and now the entire WH arts committee quits in-mass. http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/18/entertainment/white-house-arts-committee-resigns/index.html Levels of division and derision grow and grow... So many questions in Charlottesville... - Guest - 08-18-2017 Quote: @purplefaithful said:yes, but do we really need a WH arts committee? with all the shit in the world and this country, do we really need to be concerning ourselves with the fine arts? I think somethings can take a back seat so as not to be a distraction to more urgent issues. and as far as people bailing in protest... fuck em. if they really were there for the preservation of the arts, they would put that goal above their politics and stay there and fight to do what they were set to do. they arent bailing on Trump, they are bailing on the arts they were commissioned to protect and preserve. ( i couldnt serve under Trump as a boot licker, so I certainly would be a PITA to him as long as I was allowed to be.) I get so fucking sick of "protests" thats the problem with this country, a bunch of spoiled fucking brats, if they dont like the way things are going they sit down in the middle of the field and pout until the game is changed for them instead of working for the changes they hope to enact. So many questions in Charlottesville... - Guest - 08-18-2017 jimmy...Have you heard Sir Charles on all this statuary discussion yet? Pretty classic http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/charles-barkley-statue-neo-nazi-interview-video/ So many questions in Charlottesville... - Guest - 08-18-2017 Quote: @purplefaithful said:Sir Charles has spoken! I would love for a white version of him to tell all these people that are joining up with the supremacist that would talk to all the struggling whites that are being drawn into the hate rhetoric and tell them to pull their heads out their ass. IMO what it boils down to is that regardless of what side of the issue... there is struggle for both sides, and since there has to be a bad guy that gets blamed... ( heaven knows we cant expect people to be accountable for their own fucking choices that have them in bad situations... black and white) but the politicians and the media ( the people that really could exact change if they felt so inclined to do so, but choose not to for self serving reason) know that if they keep it a race issue and not a responsibility issue they can keep their voter bases at odds and continue with the status quo. So many questions in Charlottesville... - Guest - 08-19-2017 Quote: @Mike Olson said:What about the Communist flag that "our fathers" fought? Why is it that liberals get a pass for embracing that garbage... but when white southerners celebrate the Confederate flag, it is suddenly some horrible thing? I remember having conversations in the past about how things were headed in the right direction. And you, Mike, mocked me directly by asking how my concerns about various social issues had any real, direct impact on my life. But now that "the shoe is on the other foot" so to speak, NOW these things are a big deal? I seriously doubt that neo-nazis are having any kind of direct impact on your life, Mike- yet you are still speaking out against it and pointing out the dangers of the path this country is on. That's what makes the liberal outrage (speaking in general terms, not about you directly) so hard to listen to. When there was all kinds of hateful rhetoric going on by liberal groups... and violent protests were taking place... they didn't say a word. In fact, they defended it. But now that anti-liberal (I won't call neo-nazis "conservatives") hate-speech and violence are taking place, it's the end of the world. If people (on either side) ACTUALLY cared about their fellow human beings, they would denounce those behaviors ALL THE TIME, not just when it happens to go against their own personal ideologies. So many questions in Charlottesville... - Guest - 08-19-2017 Quote: @MaroonBells said:"largely non-violent"... "opposed to racism and profiling"? What group have you been watching. I'm willing to bet that more violence has been committed by BLM members than KKK members (in the time that BLM has been around). Yes, I know that the KKK did horrific, immoral, ungodly things in the past. I'm talking ONLY about the recent present. Who tore up Ferguson and Baltimore? What motivated the sudden rash of police assassinations? "Roundly condemned by BLM" Hardly. Heck, this week you had a senator from Missouri saying publicly that she wished Trump would be assassinated. Yeah, non-violent... Don't take my word for it. Barbara Reynolds, a minister and 1960s activist, wrote last year of the current movement: Quote:Many in my crowd admire the cause and courage of these young activists but fundamentally disagree with their approach. Trained in the tradition of Martin Luther King Jr., we were nonviolent activists who won hearts by conveying respectability and changed laws by delivering a message of love and unity. BLM seems intent on rejecting our proven methods…[A]t protests today, it is difficult to distinguish legitimate activists from the mob actors who burn and loot. The demonstrations are peppered with hate speech, profanity, and guys with sagging pants that show their underwear. Even if the BLM activists aren’t the ones participating in the boorish language and dress, neither are they condemning it.As for being opposed to racism and profiling... did you happen to catch any of the stories about people being rejected by BLM leadership (or, at the very least, those sympathetic to the group) because they weren't black/liberal enough? Like I said in the previous post: spare me your faux outrage at the violence you're seeing now... when it never bothered you before. I hated Trump... did not vote for him... and still don't like him as the president. But he has had some of his "fans" attacked by people on "your side"; and I'll be you never said a word about it. Seems like a pretty liberal point of view: "rules are for thee, but not for me".
