We'll know by the beginning of November....

...what kind of team Minnesota is. 4 of next 6 at home, one of the away games is a neutral site (in London against Cleveland) and the other at Chicago. 1-1 is a fine record for heading into this stretch, especially if Detroit can get beat tonight. The plate is set for the team to win games, whether they will or not remains to be seen. No excuses. Good teams will take advantage.

  Postgame thoughts vs Steelers
Posted by: supafreak84 - 09-18-2017, 04:23 AM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

That game was preseason-esque today. Just a few thoughts:

- This was going to be an extremely difficult game to win, with or without Bradford. Not having our starting QB play today just sealed the deal. I'm not freaking out because sitting Sam was the right move to make against a very active Steelers defense. Good chance he would have been injured worse if he played today. For what it's worth I think the Steelers are the favorite to get to the Super Bowl in the AFC. They are really talented across the board.

- The Vikings have been bad over the first two weeks of committing really bad penalties at inopportune times. Momentum killing penalties on offense (backed us up a ton today) or the defense not being able to get off the field on 3rd downs because of penalties (off side/pass interference).

- I think we are in a little bit of trouble in the secondary. Newman is just not the same guy at 39 years old. He's slow and has to give a ton of cushion because he doesn't have the recovery speed anymore. Tre Waynes for whatever reason has just not progressed or played up to his athletic prowess. I'm hoping they can get Tremaine Brock up to speed soon because we need the help against teams that can spread us out with talented receiving cores.

- I think Keenum was put in an impossible situation today. For what it's worth I think he is the best backup QB this team has had in some time and will do fine if we have to start him next week at home against Tampa.

- Keep feeding Dalvin Cook. He continues to show that he's special and can be a real corner piece of our offense going forward. Unfortunately getting behind so early and trying to play catch up limited his overall impact.

Blah... what an ugly game... even though we weren't really blown out... it was almost like it.  Too many flags, too little points.  Lots of questions still need answered...   Just another year of being a Viking Fan....  Right?

No, not the return of Moss. But gives us 3 legitimate targets and he could help things quite a bit...

Gonna be a longer year for Saints??
Posted by: purplefaithful - 09-18-2017, 12:04 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (11)

With our season being questionable with the troubles @ QB, its really bad (at least early on for the Saints). Maybe they'll end-up with a shot at one of the franchise QB's next year as a Brees' heir apparent? What we learned in the Saints loss to the Patriots is quite a lot

The AP or AD as you know him is no more. The jump-cut is there. The agility is there as is the vision, but the burst is non-existent. There was a pitch play that he converted for a first down (barely) in which he struggled to get to the edge on what can only be assumed was a well-blocked play. After looking as though he was running in sludge, Peterson was finally able to turn the corner and stretch for the marker with only inches to spare. That same play, with Ingram in, is a 1st and about 2-3 extra yards or more. The quicker Sean Payton relegates Peterson to a clean up role and features Ingram with some Alvin Kamara mixed in, the better the offense will roll.
