Ian Rapoport✔@RapSheet#Giants rookie QB Davis Webb is expected to be inactive today, sources say, though he should get 2-3 starts before 2017 ends. Eli Manning has been helping Geno Smith prepare this week. More on the #Giants QB situation: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...re-in-2018

Jfc...let me get this straight, you bench Eli during the second longest starting streak so you could see the young QBs, then you don't have one of the two QBs active today...fucking moron...

Nearly as important as Rhodes v Jones...Hill's biggest test to date...The great thing is Shurmur won't put Hill in position to fail...I fully expect Hill to neutralize Mrs Beasley and Reiff to take out Clayborn...

We will conduct pregame reports from Mecedez Benz Field, will tweet what we see on the field and have post game interviews and our post game show with Pete Bercich tomorrow.

If you have never followed us on Twitter for gameday, I think you will find it enjoyable - if you are a Twitter subscriber, you can interact like a chat room, and if you are not (or don't want to subscribe to Twitter) you can just follow the comments and fans responses.

We will post some on the website, but because we do so much in real-time, it is hard to post it all everywhere

Injured Packers QB Aaron Rodgers returning to practice
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-02-2017, 10:28 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (2)

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Aaron Rodgers' return is a go.
The Green Bay Packers' two-time MVP quarterback, who was placed on injured reserve after breaking his right collarbone Oct. 15 against Minnesota, is on track to practice Saturday, coach Mike McCarthy said.
"He's got a workout today that we'll obviously evaluate," McCarthy said Friday. "We're looking tomorrow to potentially practice him in a trial return. That's the outlook."

Vikings' balance on offense, defense pivotal to 9-2 start
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-02-2017, 09:28 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

In Mike Zimmer’s first three seasons as coach, the Vikings often won games despite their offense.
Zimmer built a top-notch defense in a hurry, but the offense remained behind. Minnesota was 27th in the NFL in total offense in 2014, 28th in 2015 and 28th last season.
Well, the other side of the ball finally has caught up.
The Vikings are the NFL’s only team to rank in the top five in total offense (5th) and total defense (5th). That kind of balance has been a key reason in Minnesota being 9-2 and tied for the second-best record in the NFL.
“It’s important for us as an offense,’’ wide receiver Adam Thielen said Friday. “Obviously, we have a lot of confidence with our defense, but we want to kind of have their backs as well. So when they let up a score, we want to have their backs and score, so it just takes some pressure off them.’’

Julio Jones says he hopes Vikings play him man-to-man
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-02-2017, 09:25 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (10)

Spoiler alert, Julio. The Minnesota Vikings are definitely going to play man-to-man with Xavier Rhodes on Sunday.
The Atlanta Falcons’ superstar receiver told the media Thursday that he’s looking forward to a one-on-one matchup with one of the NFL’s top shutdown corners.

“[Rhodes] is a very confident guy,” Jones said. “Hopefully man-to-man. Go out, hopefully get man-to-man and we’ll see. But I don’t know how they’re going to play me. They have a tendency to cheat the safety a little toward the star, but we’ll see Sunday.”

No mainstay at quarterback in 25 years; but they routinely make the playoffs, anyway
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-02-2017, 06:21 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (5)

Vikings haven't had a mainstay at quarterback in 25 years — but they routinely make the playoffs, anywayOn Sunday afternoon, the Vikings will suit up in Atlanta’s new $1.6 billion palace in search of their 10th win, behind a quarterback they signed to back up the quarterback they traded for after their first-round pick got hurt.
Nine-hundred and twenty-seven miles north, the Green Bay Packers — they of the charmed quarter-century of quarterback play — will take to Lambeau Field trying to keep their flickering playoff hopes alive, behind Brett Hundley, the backup QB whom coach Mike McCarthy has staunchly defended since Aaron Rodgers broke his right collarbone at U.S. Bank Stadium on Oct. 15.
Since the Packers’ renaissance began with Brett Favre in 1992, there’s perhaps been nothing more galling to Vikings fans about the team they love to hate than its consistency at the game’s most important position. After Favre’s 16 seasons produced three NFL MVP awards, two Super Bowl trips and one title, the Packers turned to Rodgers, who’s won two regular-season MVPs and hoisted a Lombardi Trophy of his own.
But while the Packers continue to see how the other half lives while hoping for a late-season Rodgers return, the Vikings are steamrolling toward the playoffs with what’s become something of their own quarterback trademark: resourcefulness.
