Unlike True Detective, Fargo S1 & S2 were both imo top notch…Highly recommend you catch em if you haven’t already. They dont build on each other story-wise so you can watch them in any order.

S3 looks to carry on good entertainment:

I am also very much looking forward to season 3. The show is so entertaining. The seasons don’t build on each other, but they are somewhat connected. I would watch in order.

Anyone else underwhelmed by the premier?  I thought Ewan McGregor was painful to watch…

Thanks for the heads-up on the 3rd season starting I will add to my list.  Yea really liked the 1st two seasons.

Back to True Detectives – first season was off the charts awesome in my opinion.  Woody and Mathew (whom I didn’t really like as an actor before this) were perfect together.  The next season was a shite-show, just awful. I couldn’t even watch it. For as much accolades I can give the first season and equally hated the second.

I thought it was okay.  They’ve managed to maintain the ‘vibe’ at any rate.  I actually thought season one was really rather slow and bordered on dull until the last few episodes.  They tended to end the earlier episodes with SOMEthing that was interesting enough to keep me watching though.  The second season kicked off a little more quickly imo, but paced out pretty much the same and overall I don’t think I enjoyed it quite as much.  I expect this season will be a slow burn too.  That’s just kind of how the show works.

Season one of TD was much like Fargo for me.  I’m not much of a McConaughey or Harrelson fan so they alone couldn’t keep me watching.  I thought it rather dull and put it aside after four episodes.  Fortunately I did finish it after hearing all of the talk post finale.  It built up and finished great!  I just had to get through the slow beginning.  I quit on season two right away and apparently I don’t need to finish that one.

Big fan of the movie and franchise.  Loved the premier.  Just as quirky…plot and characters) as the previous two and I love the way the Hawley will have these weird, disjointed pieces fall together.

Din’t think McGregor did dat bad.  But fer geez sakes,  shootin’ each scene twice with yerself would be pretnear hard to do, don’t ya know dat then?  wink

Yep.  This season started slow for me… but the last few episodes have been outstanding.  The use of the bowling alley was classic Coen,,, even if it wasn’t Sam  when the camera pulled back…  I would have freaked out if he would have been, but each climate zone must have it’s own caretaker/story teller.   Loved it.

Varga is. Cant top Billybob Thornon imo, but he’s stand-up and applaud worthy in his own right.

Shit,  I’m still waiting to make the connection to East Germany at some point.

Shit,  I’m still waiting to make the connection to East Germany at some point.

If you remember last week’s episode with the latest Jewish version of the “The Stranger” (ala The Big Lebowski), the Paul Marrane character mentions, in addition to the Cossack slaughtered villagers, Helga Albrecht, the mysterious murdered woman in East Germany that the poor Jacob Ungerleider was being interrogated about in the opening espisode.  She was undoubtedly killed by Yuri before he came to America and was made to finally confront her by Paul at the Bowling Alley bar.

By the way, Paul was seen in an earlier episode.  From Vulture.com…

“Remember Paul? He ran into Gloria Burgle twice in “The Law of Non-Contradiction,” first on the plane to Los Angeles and then in the bar during her date from hell. Here he takes on a mystical presence, almost as if he’s not really there, an omniscient visitor from another time and place.”
