It's scary how some medications are marketed for one thing and then used for something else. Our medical industry is very profit driven and with the high rate of obesity in the United States, these drugs are going to be very profitable.  Also famous people using Ozempic brings more demand for it

I don't know if its 'scary' or not, but it happens. Viagra was a heart drug when it first came out. BigPharma doesn't always anticipate what may be lucrative alternative uses for a few drugs but they sure as hell will jump all over it in a minute.

Trust me, BigPharma has been looking at obesity drugs for quite some time now. The problem has been each one causes stomach issues....so they've never really gone to market. Ozempic just causes you to be less hungry....substantially if you take a high enough dose. So people are losing weight but they are also losing muscle tissue because they are basically starving themselves. Most women don't care about that, they just want to be thin at any cost. Especially celebrities. Beauty and thinness above all else. Crazy times.

Oh I know they have been looking into obesity drugs, anything for a buck. Scary because of risk and complications that are involved, they are still there with these medications. Also scary because of the trendy nature of them. Also the long-term impact is still unknown. And then there are or should be the psychological implications that should be considered. My epilepsy medicine is used for depression. I know medication has multiple uses but it is scary in this situation.

I am on Ozempic but only because I was loosing the battle with my A1C.  Diet and exercise just wasn’t doing it anymore.

I started it this summer and my A1C dropped from 9 to 7 and i lost 30 lbs.

For me it has been an unexpected double health benefit.

I just hope that they dont come out and find that it causes some unexpected health risk.

it is like Xerelto as far as expensive.

You brought up what I was going to share,  the weight people are losing is not good,  typically its muscle loss and those using it actually ser their body fat % increase as a result,  they are technically fatter than before,  at least when they had muscle they had the ability to burn fuel,  less muscle,  less burn,  more fat.  If it helps those with diabetes,  great, but those using it for weight loss need more information.

There’s a lot of things I find scary about our medical
system, but off-label prescriptions doesn’t rank high on my list.

I’d much rather that a doctor have freedom to help me to the
best of their ability than have that freedom limited because no corporation
decided it was profitable enough to do the research.  I’m way more concerned that the few times I’ve
seen a doctor, they look at my information, make a decision, and leave in the
span of like 5 minutes.  I’m way more concerned
that the scientific process is massively broken regarding pharma drugs, that
the organizations do their own research, and then are “regulated” by people
that come from the companies they regulate and will return back to the
companies they regulate.  The entire
industry is about how to siphon as much money from us rather than making us as
healthy as possible.
Do you know what's really messed up?  that doctors can prescribe drugs they know are addictive but aren't obligated to help their patients break their addictions once the treatment has ran it's course.

See, not always scary. Sometimes very beneficial multiple unintended uses:
