Geoff Nichols (NFLDraftGuru) Final 2017 Top 5 By Position

Now that we are a day out from the 1st round of the 2017 NFL draft it time to release my annual top 5 by position. After watching countless hours of film throughout the predraft process the main takeaway with this class is that there is limited talent at the top with substantial depth through the middle of the 2nd round. This should play out nicely for the Vikings who pick first at #48.

How to read this – Each position group is ranked individually. Remember that there are varying levels of depth within each positional group, to assist with this the (1),(2),(3), etc.. next to each players name represents the round I have graded them within. Any player with an * next to their name has been dropped on the board due to conduct or injury concerns. New this year I’ve also added a “wild card” player within each positional group signified by the abbreviation WC. This represents a player who although is not a top 5 prospect at the position has a chance to become successful in the league and surprise evaluators.

Enjoy!

Just curious, is Brantley off your list because he is not top 5 or is it due to off field issues?

The WC is for a player that is a potential mid to late round pick that could surprise evaluators. But being a role player wouldn’t be a huge surprise. He is a 3rd round prospect and #7 on my list.

    Thank You Guru

Will be a good guideline to look at tomorrow.

I see originally Ryan Ramczyk, Wisconsin was projected in the 1st round. Did he drop just because of the uncertainly of his injury and surgery?

That is part of it. The other part is that some teams are unsure if he is fully dedicated to football.

Thanks for taking the time to put together your draft ratings. Will definitely be a nice resource the next couple of days. I’ve started hearing people talk about Jabrill Peppers as an option for the Vikings. I haven’t been particularly high on him, but I also hadn’t really considered him much either. My gut feeling is that he’s a better college player than pro and that he doesn’t have a clear position at the next level. That could mean he’s a versatile piece or that he’s a weird fit at a couple of spots. Not optimistic he’d be a great hybrid linebacker/safety, but maybe I’m not being fair to him.

Mike moved it over to an article from my original thread and some may have been lost. Let Mike know what you think is missing and he may be able to add them back in.

It wasn’t the software it was my fault because this was posted as a forum post and we really wanted this to show as an article on our site. When I went to merge the two I accidentally merged the existing topic into the wrong topic. So you probably like me about as much as you like packer fans. tongue-out_03

I really sort of screwed the pooch on that one. Sorry guys.
