I have been hearing this for a couple of seasons. All the Vikings need is an average QB to win. If it is true, is Kyler Murray an average QB?

An average QB is defined as a game manager who avoids turnovers but rarely carries the offense. He distributes the ball to playmakers, protects the football, and relies on a balanced running game and defense, but needs a strong supporting cast to win. A team's O-line, scheme, and pass catchers heavily dictate whether an average QB is functional or struggles. So is Kyler Murray performing at the level of an average QB this year?

AVG.QB K. MURRAY WENTZ

NFL QB RANK 16th 19th N/A

PASSER RTNG. 85-90 85.8 22nd 106.4

QBR 50 45.8 25th 54.5

COMP. % 63-65 % 66.4% 11th 59%

YDS./Attempt 7.0-7.5 yds. 6.5 yds. 19th 7.1 yds.

TD/INT. 2:1 3:2 3:0

KM is performing a bit below average NFL QB standards so far. So is he responsible for the offensive dysfunction ? Or does his performance reflect a lack of a balanced running game due to the O-line or a scheme that doesn't support his strengths? We know the defense and pass catchers are top of the NFL.

Of course he did and so did MB. But good luck expecting either to admit being wrong about anything. Any pushback and the belittling insults come and the dismissiveness. We are just talking football here. You can't deny SO FAR K1 has been very underwhelming, doesn't mean he always will be.

Specifically which part were either of us wrong about?

Best surround?

2 time pro bowler?

Left a shit organization?

Cuz, this was pretty much the mantra.

But, please, do elaborate. Also, maybe use our search feature and find the posts where anything was promised.

What a complete crock of shit.

You're too thin skinned, man......we all predict things wrong and right. Being called out and you are throwing a hissy? Please. Don't take it so seriously.

I've been wrong many times and admitted it on this board. I've been called out, its all good. I've approached things wrong and apologized to posters over the years, you included. Its all ok. We get entrenched in our opinions, we're fans. But I don't get the dismissiveness. What point does that serve? We're just a board of long suffering Viking's fans, waiting to get one before the dirt nap.

Are you or Maroon happy with the level of QB play we've seen from Kyler? Serious question.

Predict? Sure

Promise? Fuck off.

Times you been called out? Funny coming from the top passive aggressive poster on the board.

And that concludes the latest round of Sticky stirring the pot for his own amusement. Find a hobby.

So far Kyler has played worse than his backup, and worse than his other backup who we traded away.

And we're 6-0 🔥

I see we're all currently at different levels of acceptance with this.

Yeah, after everything I PROMISED I’m not happy with his play.

Can’t speak for MB, but I’m fairly certain he also not happy with Murray’s play after everything HE PROMISED.

Kyler has had long enough. We need better if there’s going to be a serious run at a title. They’re just wasting an epically good defense by doing nothing other than trading away our one dynamic QB for peanuts. If it’s me, I’m actively and aggressively shopping for a replacement. You cannot put your season on the hopes that a guy turns it around. I hope by some miracle he does, but I don’t think you can rely on it at this point.

Offer a boatload for Herbert, try to get Baker Mayfield or try to get Kirk. Do something with that magical 5th rounder Teasley.

Say what you want about Kwesi, but he put together the vast majority of the personnel on this defense and I for one miss him at this point.

Couple of things. First about the pissing match. Those that predicted Murray would be an upgrade did say it would take time. I'm a bit skeptical but Chase Daniels doesn't seem to think Murray is the problem.

Second, I think the problem is multifactorial. The Vikings are the worst first down team in the league. KOC has been winning ever since he started running more. But the Offensive line isn't physical enough to get much push at the line of scrimmage. If he doesn't run on first down he usually does on second down and they often end up in 3rd and more than 5 yards to go. It is very difficult to have a long drive down the field when you are in third with more than 5 yards to go. That makes things more difficult for Murray. I'm not making excuses for Murray. He needs to up his game. But this may be part of the reason he hasn't been able to match his previous level of play statistically.

The other elephant in the room is not feeding your best player. Don't let the defense eliminate your best player by simply lining up in double coverage on him. KOC needs to put him in motion, line him up in the slot and move him around or whatever it takes to get him involved. Murray needs to be willing to throw him some 50/50 balls at times. Getting Jefferson the ball should be the number one priority if they want this offense to wake. Hell, this team is hardly even using him, how foolish is that.

👍🏼 Got it. I couldn't tell what your thoughts were when you would just post "6-0" everytime someone had a valid criticism of Kyler's play to date.

Hopefully the offense starts showing signs of life these next couple weeks. The NFC is wide open right now and you could argue if Kyler starts playing above average and Jefferson starts producing like he did with Cousins and Darnold... I like our chances of being one of the last teams standing.

I just appreciate you answering my question. Seems we're in agreement that we're both not happy with Kyler's level of performance to date and hoping he gets it figured out. That's what we all (including Sticky) want... better QB play. If we get it, I think we win the NFC if the offense can start playing like a top 10 unit.

Well we’re 6-0, the little fucker is still coming up short & Wince is what he is. We’ve seen glimpses of the Purple Dwarf’s abilities and are all hoping he somehow more consistently plays up to them. Will he though, who the hell knows? Will KOC find the formula? Will our new GM actually make some moves? How’s Max looking, Lol?😇Our D is on a pace to be historic, but beyond that all we have is questions and more questions. I guess it’s time to get a shitload of popcorn ready & hold on to your butts…!:tu_purp:

I don't think there is any chance this offense will suddenly become top 15, BUT I think we can crack top 20 if 2 things happen.

  1. Put in more RPO's for Murray. Simply put, he is going to have to become as much of a running QB as he is throwing. That extra dimension has to be a consistent threat.

  2. Keep Murray out from under center. I have heard all the folks talking about running slants and quick outs, you can't do that with Murray under center. He simply can not see the receivers that quickly behind a 6'6" guard/tackle. Pistol and Shotgun is it.

  3. (Bonus) For the love of GOD, 2 reads and done. The 7 step drops with 4 WR's in 3 second developing routes just isn't going to cut it. Everything should be 7 to 18 yards all day long. MAYBE...2X take a shot. Otherwise...RPO to drags and daggers at 7 to 18 yards. Get the ball into JJ and Addisons hands quickly and let them run.

As always..I am available for OC duties! :)
