Vikings WR Justin Jefferson Sends A Message to Offense
The Vikings are finally getting close to having their full offense together for Sunday’s game against the Colts, and Justin Jefferson sounds ready for the expectations that come with it.
Minnesota is 5-0 after a bye, and the guys who’ve been missing are expected to be back. Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson, Jordan Mason, and Christian Darrisaw look to play this Sunday. All of them practiced fully on Wednesday. Jefferson made it clear he wants more from the group once they’re all out there at the same time. A message that resonates with the locker room and fans.
Jefferson Sets The Bar
“I’m definitely looking forward to it,” he said. “It’s just so much talent out there on the field and so many expectations from the whole entire offense, and we haven’t been 100% yet. When we get everybody back out there on that field, it should be even more expectations and better execution than what we already have gotten before.”

He also pointed out the obvious: they haven’t really seen what this offense can do yet. “We definitely haven’t got that full potential yet. We haven’t had everybody out there at the same time. For everybody to be healthy and to get back in the groove of things definitely would be great to see.”
Vikings Fans Expectations
Vikings fans echo the same expectations that Justin Jefferson has. To be undefeated and have this great of a defense is nothing to waste. We added a 2-time Pro Bowl QB this year to an offense that has a plethora of weapons that most quarterbacks would love to have. We were routinely called the best spot for a quarterback, yet have struggled to figure out the position to get the offense going. Fans want to see a head coach who is complimented by the league for being an offensive guru with quarterbacks, and show results with Kyler Murray. As a fan myself it is refreshing for the teams star to echo those same expectations we have as fans. We have the weapons, we have the offensive line, we have the offensive minded head coach. We looked close to a breakout in Week 5.
KOC Adjusting The Offense
The Saints game in Week 5 gave a decent look at what’s possible even when things aren’t perfect. Kyler Murray went 24-for-30 for 229 yards and a touchdown, plus 51 yards on the ground. Jefferson caught six balls for 79 yards and the score. That happened without Addison, with Hockenson leaving early on a concussion, and with both Darrisaw and Mason out. Murray mixed in some quick throws to stay in rhythm and used his legs when plays broke down. Kevin O’Connell and Kyler Murray may have started to figure this thing out. I give KOC a lot of credit for pivoting and tooling the offense more around Murray’s strengths early in the season as we saw in that Saints game.
Kevin O’Connell has been adjusting the offense around Murray’s strengths—more shotgun, getting the ball out quicker, and letting him create when coverage takes Jefferson away. The Saints game showed that scheme working. I fully believe Murray can see the field better in shotgun and rollouts, which allows him to get through his progressions and make decisions faster. With the full group back, fans should want to see that same idea expanded. Addison and Jefferson outside can stretch the field and open things up underneath for Hockenson. Mason’s return gives them a real two-back rotation with Aaron Jones, which should help the run game and keep both fresh. Darrisaw at left tackle should give Murray better protection and freer lanes to move.
Vikings Sunday Performance Impact
If it comes together, the offense can lean on those efficient early downs that kept drives going against the Saints, mix in more vertical shots, and use the run to keep defenses honest. Jefferson’s basically saying the bar should be higher now that the pieces are available. We are all expecting to see that on display before we get into the vaunted hardest part of the season schedule. Sunday against the Colts is the first real chance to see if that actually shows up.
How big is Sunday? I believe it is also a performance being weighed on the scales for general manager Nolan Teasley. The trade deadline is fast approaching on November 10th, and the Colts are an obvious trade partner. A convincing win will go a long way in determining how aggressive Teasley is before the trade deadline. How convincing the offense looks that we can make a run in the playoffs will weigh into what pieces we trade for, more importantly.
Jefferson sent the message to the offense. Get a win. Look explosive and competent on offense. If the Minnesota Vikings do that, grab your popcorn and let’s see what magic our first-year GM can conjure up.
