He will be a backup his entire career. That is what he is. Nothing wrong with it.

Is this thing STILL on?

No the coaches didnt do everything right and he missed Udinski more then I think most fans realize.
But when u miss 20 something out of 30 some starts? The buck starts and ends with that.
Teasley moved him cause something was going on in the building and my guess is that something wasnt good. Otherwise, why give up on a young prospect on a rook contract?

I think the kid had a lot of the locker room still in his corner...and the "competition" going to Kyler created a "schism" (hadn't dusted that one off for awhile).

He did miss a lot of time, though how much he would've missed if the starts had been vital for playoff seeding...eh...I think things would've changed.

Meanwhile, he's known as "glass", but got replaced by a QB that played half as many starts last season, has completed 1 season in the last 4-5, and his peers?
Nix ended '25 on IR.
Wentz broke his shoulder for us, IR last season.
Daniels is in and out constantly.
Penix...well, we saw that coming.
Jones missed most of '25 on IR.
Caleb? Carted out of our Week 2 game.
Mahomes? Ended '25 on IR.
Dart? Ironically, likely to watch JJM the rest of this season.
Hurts? Blood clots, out for rest of '26.

Lots of "glass" out there.

Teasley...KOC...WTF were you thinking...?!

I feel like not too far back, QBs started much of the season and missing time wasn't that much of a thing. Wild couple of years injury wise.

I’ve said it before and maybe it bears repeating.
2nd preseason game, McCarthy injured his ankle. We are told had it been a regular season game he would/could have gone back in.
Preseason game 3 comes and McCarthy is announced as starter and almost simultaneously is announced as unavailable.
I think that was the point the Rubicon was crossed. Teasley had zero investment in McCarthy and just witnessed a player who profoundly needed reps basically say “naw, I’m good”.

If you want to say KO failed McCarthy, that’s fine. But, McCarthy flat out quit on the Vikings.
The funniest part of this whole deal is McCarthy being elevated to near mythical status based on garbage time numbers against the 31st ranked D’s backups.
And now, my fingers will obey my brain on this subject.

I don't think we know for certain that's how that went down, do we? Honestly just asking, because this is the first time I'm hearing this.

I don't think playing through injuries in preseason is something that is make or break for a team. Teams are more concerned with staying healthy than preseason snaps.

But let's imagine that it is true. If JJM develops into a guy that is starting caliber for the Giants, and your GM traded him because he didn't play through injuries in the preseason, I think that's immediately a fireable offense. Literally, 80% of a GMs job is to find the best QB you can get. We're not talking Harvin throwing a weight at a staff member or anything like that.

I think it's possible this is how it happened. I have read that the decision to sit was McCarthy's. But I do wonder if that was the agent talking after getting phone calls about his trade availability. It's certainly not unusual for teams to sit a player they have on the market to prevent an injury from foiling a potential deal, and for agents to maybe advise the same, especially if JJ really wanted out.

Which part? Where if it was a regular season game he could have come back? I know that was said.

That he was announced as playing and then not? That also occurred.

That these transactions were the point of no return? That’s me connecting the dots. Considering the pittance we got in return I’m comfortable with that conclusion.

None of that. It's the suggestion that McCarthy chose to sit for one reason only: because he's a pussy. I can see how one might believe that after taking himself out of a game mid-series last year, but it sure would be nuts if that were the case. Especially considering he played the bulk of two games last year on a sprained ankle and a fractured hand.

I just think there might be some other factors involved, like a potential trade brewing. We might never know the full story.

You realize this is going to devolve into “you called him a pussy”.

No, it was more of “I don’t need to prove anything “.

That would seem even more nuts...or at the very least show a complete lack of self-awareness. I wouldn't eliminate that as a possibility.

Here is my perception.

I wish JJ well and that he has success. At the same point whether due to him shutting down to being a part of the Vikings team or the Vikings seeing no hope for him - there was no future here with the Vikings. As to his performance. I am not sure it will be easily replicated. 1. New Orleans was playing in the lead and was playing more preventative. 2. JJ's biggest weakness is accuracy and it was heavily on display. I counted at least 10 throws that were significantly off the mark. The Giants WR/TE made some amazing catches. Maybe JJ just needed a new start - but now teams will gameplan for JJ's weaknesses.

He's only a rental in NY for the rest of this season. His 5th year option is due in May & it's $26M. If the NYG pick it up it's guaranteed even if he's waived at the cut down. No way are the NYG doing that. That would mean that they're giving up on Dart.

Then we trade a 5th for Dart

But lets say you trade him for nothing because he’s got the attitude that “he doesn’t need to prove anything so he’s not going to risk getting injured in a meaningless game” and he’s not taking the job “seriously” or is immature in however you define it, and then he goes out and earns a starting job shortly after you decide that he’s unworkable as a QB3 on your team.  Isn’t that on coaching to figure out how to coach him then?  I’m not saying he’s earned a starting job now, but if he plays top-25 QB for the Giants with flashes like we saw last game in another game or two over the rest of the season, I think that’s pretty damning of our coaching staff and front office.  A large chunk of this game is how do you take young, cheap, immature players and maximizing their production.  You just can’t have $20M+ a year players at every position on offense.  The offense started the season with high draft picks and expensive veterans at 4/5 Oline, 3 WR, 2 TE, 2 RB.  If the coaching staff can’t make it work with roughly the same level of investment as other teams, it’s doing it wrong.
