Protect No Picks: MN Vikings Must Go All In
The Minnesota Vikings have started the 2026 season a perfect 5-0. They have been relatively healthy to this point, and have a perfectly timed bye week to generate more momentum on that front. If there’s a time for the franchise to go all in, it’s now.
You absolutely have to build through the NFL Draft if you want to create a sustained winner in the NFL. The reality though is that windows in the league are incredibly fleeting. As of 53-man cutdowns, the Vikings were just outside of the top 10 when it comes to youngest average age across their roster. That said, their key contributors aren’t spring chickens.
Viking Key Players
Harrison Smith came back to save the safety position despite being nearly 40 years old. Brian O’Neill and Christian Darrisaw have both seen plenty on the ends of the line. Justin Jefferson isn’t young anymore, and Aaron Jones is a modern marvel. Eric Wilson is a post-prime performer, and Andrew Van Ginkel is on the wrong side of 30 as well.
Combine those realities with where a good team is likely to draft, and you have a perfect storm in front of you. A first round pick becomes much less valuable when it’s in the late 20’s, and each round thereafter is watered down as well. The Vikings currently have nine picks available for the 2027 NFL Draft, and every single one of them should be on the table.
Having Kyler Murray under contract for just $1.3 million this season afford Minnesota a bargain at the most important position in sports. Adding as much talent to this team before the November 10th trade deadline should be Nolan Teasley’s only goal. He’s not going to trade all nine picks, but parting with a handful of them to add needle-moving starters and depth is a must.
Murray didn’t represent Minnesota pushing all of their chips in, but cashing out on J.J. McCarthy brought the end to a failed decision by previous general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. With such momentum behind them now, the Vikings should be looking to go all in on a Super Bowl, knowing that they’ll need to reconfigure things in a couple of years anyways.
You aren’t drafting the quarterback you desire at the end of the first round, and the 2028 class is shaping up to potentially be more notable than the 2027 group anyways. If you have a ring on your finger, then punting on the 2027 NFL Draft in April hardly feels like a bad step to take. When the event comes to Minnesota in 2028, you’ll have a bunch of excitement built up around the next wave of incoming talent, and you’ll probably be well-positioned to capitalize on it.
Teasley needs to go big game hunting over the course of the next month. The best and biggest names dealt should be in a Minnesota Vikings jersey, and they should also have the most to offer.

The Vikings currently have nine picks available for the 2027 NFL Draft, and every single one of them should be on the table.
The 2027 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 29-May 1 in Washington, D.C.
The Vikings have nine picks in the following rounds (as of Oct. 7, 2026):
First round
Second round
Third round
Third round (from Philadelphia in the Jonathan Greenard trade)
Fifth round
Fifth round (from Carolina in the Adam Thielen trade)
Fifth round (from the New York Giants in the J.J. McCarthy trade)
Sixth round (original pick re-acquired from New England in the Walter Rouse trade)
Sixth round (acquired in the Harrison Phillips trade)
The exact spots will be determined later, based on order of finish, as well as the NFL's compensatory formula for later rounds.
If the Vikings are awarded any compensatory picks based on departures and arrivals during 2026 free agency. Compensatory picks are awarded between the Super Bowl and the following draft.
Teams normally are slated to have at least one selection in each of the seven rounds, but Minnesota has executed multiple trades.

This team still needs to re-build depth and its staring down a # of key players on the wrong side of 30...
We all know who they are. And you know what? I liked having a pick in the 2nd rd for the first time in what seems like years.
I think Teasley needs to tread carefully, there are ways to improve odds this year w/out trashing the next draft or 2.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

Yeah, don't agree with this article at all. 🙄
Flipping a fifth for Pollard would have as much impact as moving a premium pick for another high dollar player.
I may have mentioned this before.
