The #1 Kyler Murray Era Has Arrived
The Minnesota Vikings signed Kyler Murray as a free agent because he was the best available option. He brought athleticism to the table, had shown a high level of success previously, and cost next to nothing. It was always going to take time for things to gel with a new team and offense, but it appears everyone is finding their stride.
Kevin O’Connell’s offense is complex, and it’s largely designed for stationary quarterbacks. He began to adjust his process in Week 4, but made more dramatic differences against the Saints in New Orleans. We saw Kyler Murray scramble multiple times, as well as a pistol look and continued commitment to the run out of shotgun sets.
Kyler Murray’s high level play
The victory in New Orleans was easily the best of Murray’s tenure in purple, and it went well beyond the box score. Sure, the veteran completed 24-of-30 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown. He picked up 51 yards on 10 rushes as well. What he did best though was showcase a high level of decision-making within the constructs of what O’Connell game-planned for him.
Minnesota was without tight end T.J. Hockenson for much of the game, and Jordan Addison was inactive. That didn’t stop Murray from targeting 11 different receivers. He didn’t utilize design runs to gain yards on the ground either. Instead, Murray looked comfortable to the point that he was empowered to pick up key yardage in big moments however he saw fit.
It’s a good spot for the Minnesota Vikings see that to take shape as well. Now on their bye week, they get additional time for Hockenson (concussion) and Jordan Mason (thumb) to return. The offense has gelled in a way we have been hoping to see pair with the offense. As more comfort is felt as the team continues their work, they’ll pair that with health and go into the toughest stretch of their season in a good place.
Brian Flores engineering a lights out defense has been a good thing every year. Wasting it with whatever the offense was to this point was tough to watch. For now though, it appears there is real momentum towards Kyler Murray leading the offense toward the goal of a complete team coming together.

I swear these sites love to get ahead of themselves so they can tear it down and watch it burn the next week.
Go all in on trades and crowning Murray already....oh boy. I hope we are saying that in 5 weeks. But can't deny the trend is going in the right direction.📈 ⬆️
End of November we’ll know what we are.

Murray's going to have a few more bad games. I just hope he puts together a few more good ones before that happens. The team needs to know that the early bad games were the outliers (or more accurately, him getting up to speed), and the terrific performance late against the Dolphins and in New Orleans is more what we should expect.
I'm excited about adding Hockenson, Darrisaw, Mason and Addison to the offense that dominated the Saints.
