Football is different from working out. Wondered how he would hold up at a very physical position after 2 years off.

Yah, I'll bet a lot of fans were expecting him to hit the field like it was 2023 again..

Granted the Commanders are having to play with no McClarin and a rook at QB, but them Colts are not going to be an easy out in a few weeks...

The Detroit Lions and star tight end Sam LaPorta have broken off contract talks, sources told NFL Network, after attempting to work out a long-term deal for the first few weeks of the season.

Barring a significant breakthrough, LaPorta is set to be a free agent in 2027 and would become one of the top free agents regardless of position. Detroit would have the franchise tag available.

The Lions continue to negotiate deals in-season, and there is a chance they make another attempt at a deal that would make LaPorta one of the NFL's highest-paid tight ends.

But after LaPorta overcame back surgery and showed that he is healthy this year, the thought is that a deal is unlikely considering the two sides couldn't reach an agreement over the first four weeks of the season.

Through three games and playing about 90% of Detroit's offensive snaps, LaPorta has 14 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown while blocking at a high level. Tight ends in their prime almost never get to the free agent market, and LaPorta would be a rarity.

With LaPorta wanting to fully focus on the field, the sides decided that any new contract would wait until the offseason after a push Friday and Saturday did not result in a deal.

LaPorta had hoped to be the second star tight end to land a new deal in the last couple of months after Tucker Kraft and the Green Bay Packers agreed to a four-year, $75 million contract prior to the season.

But LaPorta, who like Kraft is represented by agent Jack Bechta, and the Lions were not able to come to terms.

Noted sports media hyped world power and 'super' team, the Los Angeles Rams, lose another one. Aaron Donald....hey, where you at?? 👀 Super Joey Burrow goes to 2-2. Lions offensive juggernaut....2-2. Josh Allen, psst.....why are you still throwing those horrible INTs at the worst time? Ashton Jeanty is averaging 3.4 yards a carry and zero rushing TDs so far....yeesh.

This is why I’ve always thought the recipe for winning in the NFL is a lot less complicated than people make it out to be, even though actually doing it consistently is incredibly difficult.

As Herm Edwards used to say, “That’s why they play the game.” 😂 Anybody can beat anybody on any given Sunday. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you don’t execute, protect the football, win the trenches and make plays when they matter, none of it means much.

As John Madden said, “At the end of the game, the team with the most points on the board is going to win.”

Give me a head coach who is a strategist, creative, adaptable and aggressive; an elite defense; a blue-collar, physical and consistent offensive line; and a QB who can make plays when they’re there and, most importantly, doesn’t crumble when the game is on the line. Add depth, chemistry, continuity and leadership, and you have a pretty damn good formula for making a deep playoff run.

I couldn’t care less how pretty a QB’s throw is or how spectacularly he gets the ball to a playmaker. Just get the damn ball there when it matters. 😂

We spend so much time crowning “super teams” and individual players before they’ve actually accomplished anything. Then the season starts and reality hits. The Rams lose again, Burrow is 2-2, Detroit is 2-2, Allen is still making untimely mistakes, and Jeanty is averaging 3.4 yards a carry with zero rushing TDs.

That’s the beauty, and frustration, of the NFL. You can’t just line up the most talented roster and assume you’re going to win. You have to actually play the games and consistently execute when it matters.

As Madden also said, “Winning is the great deodorant.”

And when you’re losing, everything stinks. 😂

At the end of the day, give me a well-built, well-coached team that consistently finds ways to win, especially when things aren’t going perfectly. That’s what matters.
