Nice Stadium Planning Raiders...
Two years away from hosting Super Bowl 63, the Las Vegas Raiders are seeking financial assistance to make upgrades to Allegiant Stadium.
The Las Vegas Stadium Authority is meeting on Thursday to vote on the Raiders' request for $75 million to help fund a $158 million project that would create a new "front door" to the stadium's north entrance, according to a release.
The "front door" upgrades would include a pedestrian deck, public plaza, event deck and transportation improvements.
The $75 million would come from an existing taxpayer fund allocated specifically for Allegiant Stadium-related improvements. The remaining $83 million would come from private funding.
Allegiant Stadium is tied with SoFi Stadium for the second-youngest active NFL stadium, behind only Highmark Stadium in Buffalo that is opening this year.
The Raiders' stadium opened in 2020 and cost $1.9 billion, making it the second-most expensive stadium construction project in the NFL behind SoFi.
Over the past six years, Allegiant Stadium has hosted several high-profile sporting events, including three Pac-12 Championship Games (2021-23) and Super Bowl 58 between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.
The NFL announced in March that Allegiant Stadium would host its second Super Bowl at the end of the 2028 season. Super Bowl 63 will take place on Feb. 11, 2029.
