I look at it like this: with his excellent arm talent and history of play making ability, Kyler should absolutely thrive in Minnesota. It is by far the best team he’s ever helmed. Hopefully he takes the reins and runs with it. My expectation is that he will do just that.

As for JJM, I’m still of the mind he needs more time, but is worth developing. Losing that first year to injury sucked, but on the positive side, he’s still super young. He has all the tools you want to see, but the decision making isn’t there yet with just 10 games. That part has yet to click. In the preseason game, the announcer highlighted a play where he had plenty of time to throw the ball, but seemed to wait to try and make it perfect/look good. I see similar play when he overthrows guys when his mechanics result in the back leg coming up. I’ve always considered that throwing style to be “showy”. More Hollywood, less purposeful. You can get away with that stuff through high school and even college, but definitely not in the NFL, where it’s vital to maintain high levels of mechanics and consistency because you are dealing with much smaller windows that close much faster.

By far my choice in that draft for their spot was Bo Nix and it was because he’d already worked through much of that stuff with the struggles from Auburn to the Ducks. That experience matters so much. The more I watch JJM, the more he reminds me of Drew Brees when he came out. Some of you may be too young to remember, but Brees had many of the same traits and growing pains. You’d see exceptional throws followed by major inconsistency. It took until year 4 for Drew to click and sometimes that’s just the way it is. Hopefully the patience continues.
