Jaxson Dart probably is going to play in Saturday’s Giants preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Or he should, at least. The Giants are back on the field at 1:30 for their fourth straight practice since returning to New Jersey. It will be their 14th practice in 16 days since training camp started. The Giants have avoided any major injuries, but the bumps and bruises are starting to accumulate. As is often the case, one position is more beat up than others. That's cornerback right now. • Dru Phillips has been sidelined since spraining his knee last Wednesday. • Greg Newsome has been sidelined since injuring his knee on Saturday. • Paulson Adebo hasn't practiced the past two days. Harbaugh said he's day-to-day but wouldn't disclose the injury. I'm told it's a minor hamstring. • DJ James, who was signed last Wednesday to bolster the corner depth, didn't practice yesterday. That leaves only six healthy corners: Deonte Banks, Colton Hood, Korie Black, Art Green, Nic Jones and David Long. Safety JT Woods, who was signed on Monday, was taking reps at corner yesterday.

Some late practice notes (these late practices are killing my workflow!): • Wanted to provide more detail on the final period of practice because I've never seen anything like it. They set up a 10-minute overtime period with the 1's against the 1's and the 2's against the 2's. The second-team offense got the ball first, presumably setting up the first-team offense with the chance to drive for the "win." It didn't exactly work out that way. Both offenses sputtered. The 2's went three-and-out on their first drive and Harbaugh then had long snapper Ben Mann, punter Jordan Stout and a punt returner (Calvin Austin) as the only players on the field. Stout boomed a punt 60 yards for a touchback. On the 1's first drive, Jaxson Dart hit Isaiah Likely for a 13-yard gain on a curl for their lone first down. Malachi Fields dropped a well-thrown back-shoulder fade to stall the drive. Stout then had a 41-yard punt to Xavier Gipson. The 2's got one first down on a 10-yard in route by Thomas Fidone. Stout then kicked a 56-yard touchback with Braxton Berrios back to return. A hold on the first play (a Cam Skattebo run off right tackle) killed the next drive. It looked like Abdul Carter and Darius Alexander combined for a sack on third-and-long. Stout then boomed a 61-yard punt to the other 20-yard line. The second-team offense operated the hurry-up after taking over at their own 20 with two minutes remaining. Isaiah Hodgins and Dalen Cambre had first-down catches before the offense faced fourth-and-3 from the opposing 47. Jameis Winston hit Cambre on a quick out for 3 yards to keep the drive alive. Three straight incompletions, including an Odell catch along the sideline that was ruled out of bounds and a PBU by Art Green, set up fourth-and-10 from the 44. It wasn't clear what the coaches were going to do, but Cam Skattebo and Isaiah Likely pleaded with the coaches to let Dominic Zvada to attempt a 62-yard field goal. With the wind at his back, Zvada drilled the kick with room to spare. • Tremaine Edmunds jumped a curl on the first play of practice and nearly had an interception. Two plays later he tipped pass while chasing Dart out of the pocket. Edmunds has really good ball skills for a LB. There have been a lot of tipped balls in camp from all the QBs, which signals it's an emphasis of the defense. • Korie Black mixed in with Deonte Banks and Colton Hood as a first-team corner. Huge opportunity upcoming for Black with so many corners injured. • After spending the first two weeks of camp almost exclusively on the third-team OL, Evan Neal has gotten some second-team reps at LG this week. It's now or never for the former first-round pick.

And here's my 1-on-1 OL-DL notes: • Jermaine Eluemunor won against Abdul Carter, pushing him wide on his rush. • Darius Alexander drove Francis Mauigoa back, but Mauigoa was able to anchor. • DJ Reader drove Bryan Hudson back with a bull rush, but slipped when trying to finish with a swim move. Hudson stoned a power rush by Anquin Barnes. • Jon Runyan stuffed a rush by Shelby Harris. • Never gets old watching Andrew Thomas. He stopped a Brian Burns counter in his tracks. • Kayvon Thibodeaux blew past guard Aaron Stinnie with an inside swim move. They added some 2-on-2's. Eluemunor and Mauigoa stuffed a stunt by Burns and Carter on one rep. Carter got pressure inside while running a stunt with Thibodeaux against the right side later. Burns blew by Runyan on a stunt with Chauncey Golston against the left side of the OL. Thomas and Runyan shut down a stunt by Burns and Carter.

The final period was a 10-minute overtime. It was 1’s vs 1’s and 2’s vs 2’s. Both offenses failed to score on their first two drives. On the fifth possession, Jameis Winston got the second offense to the defense’s 44. Cam Skattebo led a plea from offensive players to allow Dominic Zvada to attempt a 62-yard field goal amid apparent hesitation from the coaches. Harbaugh obliged and Zvada delivered, making the 62-yarder.
