Does KOC have a "make it, take it" philosophy?
I noticed early on the reps between the competing QBs were being split fairly evenly. As Murray as shown better processing speed and the ability to push the ball downfield, he seems to be getting more reps. I read this morning that in the last 4 practices, Murray has gotten 63 first team reps to McCarthy's 33.

This is what I read this am in the Strib reporting on 8/5 practices:
This was the most lopsided practice yet in regards to first-team reps. Quarterback Kyler Murray took 18 snaps with the starters compared to quarterback J.J. McCarthy's seven snaps in full-team, 11-on-11 work. That brings the six-day total (July 31 was a walkthrough) to Murray: 73, McCarthy: 38.
I dont know if there is a deep meaning to it tbh? Might be the separation I am sensing or it might mean diddly squat!
I also recall KOC saying that the reps might not be 50/50 on a daily basis or even at the end of the competition. Each QB will be given reps based on what they need and what coaches need to evaluate. Something like that.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
Maybe a passive aggressive announcement?

Figured, as I said before the start of camp, it would be on the side of Murray for reps. Bound to happen. Not even mad at it. One knows the offense, one is brand new to the offense. One doesn't think, one thinks too much. One chucks the ball, one doesn't trust his instincts to throw his man open. Call the race. let's just move on to Murray being the starter and pray that he has the season that the media and multiple people have said its fact he will have his best season.

I'm almost there about calling it, but not quite yet...
I think its a lot closer then it was a week ago though.
I might have to go to therapy to figure out why I'm thinking like that?
Something inside is just not ready to relegate JJM to Qb2, even though I know it's the eventual outcome this pre-season.

Training camp isn’t purely a competition. It’s part learning and growing and also part competition. If the goal was to say, the competition is who is better at the start of camp, you wouldn’t even need to have the competition. No amount of JJM throwing to receivers in shorts on a high school field is going to change how fast he can read a defense. The goal is to improve both QBs over some period of time and then pick the best one and get them ready.

Regarding the bolded part, I don’t think that’s an applicable metric for people to look at. Luke Braun suggested that Kyler is practicing throwing it deep (because he has a history of throwing short high completion percentage throws) and JJM is working on the more intermediate routes and developing touch (which is what he needs to develop). This makes sense to me. So I don’t think it’s a 1:1 where long equals good and short equals less good.

I agree that KOC is most likely working different things for both QB. Good assessment.

We have some time to go yet. I wouldn't wait a whole lot longer, however.
