Modern day gladiator coliseums......very nice. I see they enclosed it, so one less outdoor stadium (yay!) U.S. Bank is 10 years old already! Buffalo is kicking off their new stadium this year.

Man, I cant believe KC put a roof on their new house...

Looks like the same clear stuff thats on USB.

I give the NE teams major props for embracing the outdoors (I.e. NY, Bills, Pitt, Pats)

I dont mind sitting outside in bad weather, rain sucks, but it its only a few hours. What I think is dumb though is buffalo not putting a lid on that place, the crazy snow events that town gets is about the best reason for a roof on a football stadium that I can think of... even more so than MN cold.

If they don't put a closure on it, they don't get to host one. The only argument I could see is a retractable option.

IMO, it looks like Arrowhead, just with a closed clear roof. I live locally and the fans love Arrowhead, so if this is what they land on, I imagine many fans will be happy. But for Chiefs' fans, the tailgating space is more important, which they should have plenty available, based on the location they will be building.

20 years ago next year I put my arm around Zygi outside of Arrowhead before the Vikes played the Chiefs and had him look out across the sea of red in that tailgate lot and told him this is what makes the Chiefs so hard to beat at home. The pre game atmosphere is contagious and cant be replicated in a downtown setting with fans spread out all over in bars and postage stamp sized parking lots littered across the city. No matter how much crap they throw over the loud speakers outside USB... its just not the same. Zygi told me he agreed and that he wanted to replicate a college game day atmosphere for the Vikings... well we got a drum line I guess.

I'm not certain on this, but I think they mostly covered the fan seating area (maybe even some kind of heat).

Probably a crap ton more suites too $$$!

It should result in an improvement from a fan perspective.

Agreed, not the same....

Arden Hills would have been ideal for that.

Hell pick about any direction and get out of down town and it would have been better. ultimately it would have been better for the area as well IMO as it would have forced infrastructure and mass transit improvements out of the metro core. Have they gotten that rail line running to the south west yet? seems they were working on a line getting out to 494 area in Eden Prairie a few years ago to add more park and rides options from that area.

maybe their snow systems are so heavy that they dont come in at an angle like we get with 40 mph winds packing the snow into every nook and cranny of the yard.

Well, although the tailgate situation is awesome at Arrowhead, I lived there for 18 years and went to plenty of games, it has definitely helped with fandom and zero doubt enhances the experience, but has little to do with them winning games at Arrowhead other than being loud at times. Give the credit to Andy Reid/Marty Schottenheimer, a nice two year stint from Joe Montana, Elvis Grbac playing decently (hell even Matt Cassel and Alex Smith) and of course Patrick Mahomes. They did a LOT of winning from 1989 on....but suffered for years through with Frank Gansz, John Mackovic, and a subpar outing from Marv Levy....Paul Wiggin, Tom Bettis, etc. Obviously winning that Superbowl in 1970 helped fandom tremendously, but their record from 1972 (the year Arrowhead opened)-1980 they won only 51 games (9 seasons). Rough times. Plenty of empty seats on gameday....and in the parking lots. Then they didn't go to the playoffs from 1980-1985, 6 seasons.

Consistent winning is what makes home stadiums tough to play in....its why fans are loud. Some fans have this mythological and romanticized relationship with tailgating IMO....its very fun but give me a great QB and HC....and of course wins. I mean the Rams have been to and won Superbowls with the WORST and quietest home fans in the league.

well yes, talent helps, but I think the fan engagement also helps the team and fan engagement at Arrowhead has been pretty damn good for a long time and is an asset. Minny fans can get loud too, but far to often they sit on their hands. I know people love the new stadium, but I dont think we have the noise like we used to get in the dome.

You're not wrong. It's what Seattle has enjoyed for years as well. Honestly, I prefer the Bank to Arrowhead. Also, they never built up around Arrowhead, so it's a complete joke and waste. You have two stadiums, Kaufman (Royals) and Arrowhead (Chiefs) that adjoin parking lots (kind of like how Phily had their 3-4 stadiums situated, but then have an underground train linked to the downtown) for a worldclass tailgating experience, but it stops there. No access to downtown (where I believe baseball needs to be played) and only a Denny's, one gas station, and one hotel outside the stadiums. Absolutely abysmal, which is why it was necessary to send both teams packing to better spots. The Chiefs are moving to the Legends where there is a ton of retail, food, hotels, soccer, baseball, and NASCAR events as well and the Royals are going downtown.

Its crazy how shitty it is around the stadiums in KC.....horrible. And zero around it. You can't even walk anywhere. Jackson County is not the best area. I love the walkability of a downtown stadium, hit up a restaurant/bar and then head to the game and then do the same afterwards. Is the Royals stadium going near the Power and Light district?

All that matters is winning and good teams. If you get all liquored up tailgating and your team sucks, the boo birds will rain down like hellfire.

Tailgating = shit tons of fun....but it doesn't factor into wins and losses. That's fanthink.

I believe the renderings had it in the West Bottoms, which has been somewhat revitalized since you left, over by old Kemper (now Hy-Vee arena).

yes, for real. Met Zygi, Mark, Lester Bagley, and Kevin Warren IIRC. A group of us from the old boards went together and rented one of those big tailgate tents outside of Arrowhead, and then a few of us called or sent emails to Winter Park in care of the Wilfs assistants letting them know where we would be and suggested that it would be pretty cool for the new owners to come meet some of their franchises faithful. about an hour before the game I saw a bunch of cops circled around some other men coming towards our tent, of course I was thinking it must be Burt Reynolds, but nope, it was the Vikings brass. I was pretty cool of them to come hang out, I would guess they were with us for 15 to 20 minutes visiting on the new stadium prospects and other parts of fandom.

That's just because shopping is not a thing anymore...it's all Amazon these days. As a result, restaurants struggle with less foot traffic and impulse meals.

Jimmy, that's pretty cool of the Vikings' brass. They didn't have to do that, but they understand their base and I'm sure that went a long way with you and the others in the tent.
