OT: Scary or wonderful?
Been providing guidance to my kid so she can make fact based decisions on managing her remaining student loan balance. A lot is changing this summer due to Fed changes in programs, rates etc..Probably the biggest change I can recall for many, many years.
On-line calculators from service providers are pretty basic and the call centers are swamped. Plus the call center folks ability to go off-script and do any scenario gaming is nil - and many of our questions are what if scenarios.
They are generally good people who want to help, but are only trained to do so much.
Got on AI this am and had my answers in probably 12 seconds...Now the #'s may not be exact, but most likely close enough to make informed decisions.
You know, program a vs program b stuff...
Scary or wonderful? I'm still trying to answer that one.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
If you don't mind me asking, PF....how much does she owe on her loans? Is it something you could pay off and she could just pay you back interest-free?

We're kicking stuff around as a family.
Its a touch situation for many...I have a niece who was at $123/mos payment and that's now bumping to over $389/mos. She's an elementary school teacher trying to save for a house downpayment. Thats a big chunk for her now each mos.
I dont know what these people who have 6 figures in loans are doing going forward.

It’s definitely both.
It kind of sucks that they made search engines so bad that AI is kind of the default way to answer things.
I’ve got a software problem I’m trying to sort out, and it’ll ask you to just copy and paste stuff into the chatbox. Configuration files, error codes, everything. Like it’ll do everything for you (and sometimes it works, but not all the time), but you have to have a lot of faith that your data isn’t ever being sold to someone who could use that to hack into your system.
I do think it’s getting better over time, but especially in the free tier, it’ll give it the old college try and call it a day, and if it doesn't have the answer in it's training data, it'll waste so much time going in circles and never seek out the right answer.
