Rams Extend Stafford
Thank goodness they picked Simpson this year. Hope McKay wasn’t pushing for this pick.

It gives SImpson/rams more time to cook?
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
They are typically a pretty savvy organization, but have to really question passing on someone like Lemon who could have put them over the top for a QB who is not going to play for 3 years.
Every organization can make missteps in the Draft, happens every year. Not saying Simpson is necessarily one, but personally I wasn't a fan of him.
No doubt Simpson pick was the stunner of the draft - more than Banks imo.
Lemon to Rams was set-up by the football gods and Rams hard passed.
Not sure why Lemon dropped a bit? Rams weren't the only team that passed.
Not a detractor, but also not a fan of Simpson in college.

In general, I think good teams should be much more aggressive than they are in taking QBs that fall to them, because good teams just aren’t going to be in position to draft a QB very often. A McVay led team is not going to ever be in the top 5 draft picks unless they’ve acquired a bad teams first.
If they want more help now, they should spend more future money in free agency.
It was, at best, an odd pick for a team with deep playoff chops AND a much better QB class available the following year. Could have had Lemon or Bain who would have provided immediate impact.

I think this was exactly their thinking, for better or worse.

Plus I looked at it this way, the Rams won’t have a chance to pick that high next year. They saw their chance. Liked the QB, admit he needs some time, and grabbed their QB when they could. Can’t blame them. It’s a QB driven league. They are talented enough as is to be able to take that chance. With that said, I think Lemon was the right choice they didn’t make lol
Even more so than the Banks pick, if the Rams wanted Simpson, they could have traded down and still gotten him. Who below them was taking a QB? Maybe Steelers at 21 and even that was a long shot.

Jets at 16 would have been the most obvious threat to them. Steelers at 21 would have made all the sense in the world for the same reason the Rams took him, except Rodgers has even less gas in the tank than Stafford.
