Speculation....Makes some sense with Willis gone and LaFleur & Kirk go back to DC together...

================================

Currently, the Packers have quarterbacks Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord on their roster behind Love. However, neither has a reputation for success that the NFL level and many wonder if Green Bay may want to add a veteran quarterback who would provide more certain security.

That being said, Willis did not have a good reputation as a successful NFL quarterback when the Packers first acquired him.

Still, there have been suggestions thrown out that Green Bay may look into signing four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins to backup Love. General manager Brian Gutekunst addressed this suggestion earlier this week, per Matt Schneidman:

“We’ve discussed a lot of those options. Obviously, that’s a guy who’s got a lot of pelts on the wall in this league, so we’ve certainly discussed all those kind of things, and we’ll see where it goes.”

Obviously, this is an intriguing idea because of how successful Cousins had been, overall, in his NFL career. He is also familiar with the Packers thanks to his tenure with the rival Minnesota Vikings.

Beyond that, though, Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur was Cousins’ first quarterbacks coach dating back to their days in Washington.

It remains to be seen who exactly will end up as Love’s backup in 2026. Cousins is a free agent and likely is headed for a backup role wherever he goes. Him ending up with the Packers may be a stretch, but it is far from impossible.

If I was a betting man, I would bet some money that Kirk would start ahead of a healthy Love at some point during the season, OR Love has some mystery injury or some sort.

Good, Packers need a guy that throws a 3 yard route (covered)on 4th and 10 late game in playoffs.

Umm yeah... don't make any bets.

GB will sign or draft a young option as they have historically done.

Yep...all this time later, and he was obviously about to be clobbered as he threw, and after his previous pass had been dropped.

The anger over that was, and is, bizarre to me. The frustration I get, but with the defender a nanosecond from mauling him...right there on replay...I don't get some people.

KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

No, Cousins threw behind KJO on the crosser the play before. KJO was open a step, Cousins threw him covered. ‘‘Twas a tough throw, but pass was late/behind.  It’s there in the clip I posted.

Not angry about Cousins, but that play suuuucked.  No chance of a 1st down with season on the line. If he had time to throw that to TJH, he had time to throw SOMETHING past the sticks.

Hope he lands in GB.  A shame Atlanta paid him millions to fuck off. ;)

I mentioned this a bit ago as the perfect setup for the Raiders and Mendoza. Kirko will be the perfect bandaid/mentor at this point in his career.

Kirk Cousins has found a new home, and the Las Vegas Raiders have likely found a bridge to their franchise quarterback if needed.

Cousins is signing with the Raiders, his agent announced Thursday morning.

After two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, Cousins was released this offseason and will now make his way to the Raiders and rookie head coach Kliff Kubiak. With the Raiders predicted by many to draft Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in April, Kubiak stated he would prefer not to start a rookie in Week 1 given the right scenario.

Cousins could well provide that scenario.

Kirk in Sin City huh?

Its a good move by the Raiders...

I'm kinda surprised he wants to continue to play and be an NFL nomad. Doesnt need the $$ and could be in ATL most of the year and do a tv gig with his eyes closed.

I like what the Raiders have done and I'm happy that Cousins is not going to be in Green Bay. Raiders added the Super Bowl winning offense, Linderbaum at center and Nailor at WR. They have Cousins, Jeanty and Bowers. This team could triple its 3-win total from last year.

Wonder how much Kirk was able to fleece the Raiders for. Seems like a good fit.

Comp update: Kirk Cousins will sign a five-year, $172 million deal with the Raiders that in reality is a one-year, fully-guaranteed $20 million deal that also contains a club option for two years at $80M.

The Falcons will pay Cousins $8.7 million this season, the Raiders another $1.3 million and Las Vegas also agreed to pay its new QB a fully-guaranteed $10 million roster bonus on the third day of the 2027 new league year.

And maybe most notably, it also sets another new mark: this will be the 11th straight NFL season in which Cousins’ contract will be fully guaranteed.

Raiders and Giants gotta be the teams favored to make the biggest record leap over 2025?

Kirko! Master of Mediocrity. 1-4 playoff record. Around a 53% winning percentage as QB. But the undisputed GOAT of making the monies.

Nothing screams NFL free agency more than the above stat.

I think his win percentage would've grown a bit without the Redskins' bipolar ownership and our tragic IOL play...plus, having a HC that actively hated him for years didn't help, either.

He'll always be among our most maddening QBs to me, because he certainly had his faults (I've yet to see a perfect person in this life), but could set records with JJ and was "guilty" of having an agent that could play the pay game. Given how quickly salaries blew past his "controversial" numbers, the people that still hiss about that are also bizarre to me.

If Kirko had been kept upright at even a mid-pack level, that win percentage in both regular and playoff games would've grown considerably. Maybe it's miraculous that it took years for him to get hurt, unlike Wentz....

KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

When the Ravens said sike on the Crosby deal I thought surely, nothing this offseason will be funnier than that.

I was way off LOLLLL. And again it's the Raiders. Incredible work by Kirk and his agent. $20M this year to maybe be a backup. Last year too, really. Absolutely peak.

Now we know what it would've cost to bring in Cousins as the competition QB. $20M guaranteed. Murray cost us $1.3M.

One of the many reasons why the Vikes were smart to avoid this guy like the plague in 2026.

Not once in history has the, HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT meme applied more than to Mr. Cousins :P

That's not QB2 money, that's starter money for 7-9 games and then enter Mendoza. Good plan for Vegas. This also isn't a 'competition', this is providing a soft entry for Mendoza. I bet they give Fernando more than 10 starts to prove himself as a Raider.

I was referring to what he would've been in Minnesota, not Vegas.
