The Vikings have indeed re-signed QB Carson Wentz. Given the depth issues they've faced at the position in 2023, and again in 2025, they want to minimize the risk of having an inexperienced QB on the field in 2026.

And for those riding KOC's jock too hard, keep this in mind:

The Vikings have used three or more QBs twice in Kevin O'Connell's four seasons, so the plan was to have depth entering 2026. They get it with the return of Carson Wentz, who is entering his 11th NFL season.

The other day someone was mentioning Brosmer and I *almost* said I'd rather have Wentz back than him. Hopefully that's exactly what this is. Brosmer is so far away there's no realistic projection for him helping this team that seemingly is obsessed with winning SOON.

If I read later that the Vikings have traded JJM to Harbaugh or McVay guys I'm gonna be in a dark place with this team.

My very, very strong guess is Wentz is QB3. KOC can't get caught again with prolific injuries at QB with his pants down.

I would say Minnesota is definitely not trading JJM.....unless someone comes hard on Draft day. Not sure why someone would, but.....also if Greenard gets moved, it be very close to the Draft or ON Draft day.

I think this is extremely unlikely. But I will say this: Two weeks ago, I thought the idea that the Vikings could trade JJ laughable, impossible. I no longer think that.

Ditto. (insert sad face here)

It’s funny how everyone keeps making up narratives where the Vikings aren’t moving on from JJ, yet every ACTUAL move they make points in the opposite direction.

Just like I slowly came around to JJM not being The Man in Minnesota (still love his potential), I think some others will slowly realize that JJ isn't in the team's future plans. And might not have been for awhile. There's no competition here and every QB moves tells a bit of a story (which just might be that they can't at this moment in time trust JJ to be healthy). I don't believe the Vikings would trade JJM this year, but to your point, zero doubt if somebody came strong you could survive with Wentz at QB2. No denying it. But I still think its against the odds....but shit can get crazy on Draft day. If somebody offered a 2nd round pick, they might have to think about it. But if JJ improves incrementally, he's a good QB2. I think it just serves Minnesota better to let JJM play out this year: if he gets in because of injury and shows out....and Murray plays well....they've got some options and good problems to have at that spot.

I’m my honest opinion, if someone offered a 3rd or 4th in this draft the Vikings would take it.

That's long game thinking and admittedly might be spot on. Anthony Richardson is probably only going to be worth a 6th round trade value. Sigh. I would hate to see my boy go out in flames like this possibly. An ugly undeserved exit IMO. Sad.

If the Vikings move on from JJ this offseason, it would prove to me that there is something fundamental that occurred between JJ and KOC that has soured JJ in KOC's eyes.  I mean, the kid played before he was ready, and some of that is on KOC.  His play was mostly poor, but there were enough flashes in a very limited sampling that would scream "give him some time" -- which is exactly what KOC has preached about young QBs.  So if JJ were traded now, to me that means there is something else at issue here.  I can only speculate, but maybe something to do with JJ's rehab?  Stubbornness to correct mechanics?  Something else entirely?

For me, and this is a narrative I've never believed, it would 100% legitimize the rumor that JJ was KAM's guy, not KOC's. Maybe more to the point is KOC viewed the roster as win now and KAM and ownership jammed JJ down his throat. Gross if true. I really did like Uncle Sammy and I didn't start out wanting to, I even started a thread sometime in late October or early November saying I'm not sure how Minnesota doesn't resign Darnold. That dude is a thrower of the pigskin. Beautiful. But I thought JJM would bring better intangibles and fortitude to winning games, without a drop off in physical abilities, so I shit on Uncle Sammy as he left for seeing ghosts and then he won a Superbowl. My bad.

This is too easy:

Murray Qb1
JJM Qb2
Wentz 3

Max?

Poor Max, can they even  practice squad the kid?

Yeah, this is the lineup.

Twice, Kevin O’Connell has endured seasons where the #Vikings used at least three starting QBs; both times, the team reacted by building a QB room with three former top-10 picks. They'll have that again in 2026, and while the team hasn't given up on J.J. McCarthy, he'll have to earn anything he gets.

Wentz made $1.4 million last year
Murray is going to make $1.3 million
JJ between his salary and pro-rated bonus is $4.2 million with a roster bonus of $1.7 million.

So the whole kit and kaboodle for $8.7 million approximately. Nobody is getting cut because of salary in 2026, lol. At any one time, DeShaun Watson has at least that much in his couch cushions.

They’re not paying Wentz 3 mil to be the emergency 3rd

Let’s get real here, guys

We'll see it all play out. Its crazy its only March 21st, lol......we've got a LOT of time yet to get anywhere where we know anything definitively.

BUT......I'm seeing some real safety nets put in place here with this position that leads me to believe anything can happen. It may not be probable, but its undeniably possible.

Yeah, cuz paying Carson Wentz Case-Keenum money is MADNESS considering how much we’ve already got invested in that QB room. Makes me wonder if the Vikings might consider moving Justin Jefferson so we can keep the lights on at TCO.

lmao.

Yeah, ol' Skatty apologized for that late yesterday on X. He's not the sharpest knife.

#Vikings QB JJ McCarthy has spent a significant amount of time during the offseason in California working with one of the premier private quarterback developers John Beck,
@alec_lewis
writes via
@TheAthletic
. They have been dialed in on mechanical consistencies and applying more touch.

“The Vikings are optimistic that McCarthy will show up committed to proving he’s made a major leap.”

Per sources from
@alec_lewis
, Carson Wentz’s “addition is not a referendum on 23-year-old J.J. McCarthy’s future… but it is an exclamation point on the team’s plan.”

Lewis noted that Wentz did not get “any impression that the Vikings would be moving on from McCarthy” but came backed because of his “faith in O’Connell, QBs coach Josh McCown and the team’s core players.”
