Very good read here for everyone, regardless of your thoughts on the move. **cough**...anyone STILL think JJM isn't done in Minnesota? ;)

"And while Murray still has to win the job from McCarthy, what O’Connell said to Murray did stick with him—that he was the one guy on the market that they could see as a potential longer-range answer, rather than a one-year Band-Aid. The idea of growing with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Christian Darrisaw and O’Connell and his staff was already wildly attractive to begin with. The chance to, perhaps, put down roots only made it more so."

The Vikings initial plan in 2025 was to bring back Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones to compete with J.J. McCarthy, per
@AlbertBreer
.
Breer continued saying that the Vikings decided to move in a different direction at QB when they were 4-8 last season and Kyler Murray identified as one of top candidates ?

"Meanwhile, the Vikings were 4–8, and J.J. McCarthy’s growing pains had led to discussions about Minnesota’s next steps at QB—with a reclamation project, like the one the team undertook with Sam Darnold in 2025, a logical option for 2026. That would essentially run back the initial plan for 2025, which was to bring back Darnold or Daniel Jones to compete with McCarthy, before those guys found greener pastures. Murray was one of a handful of guys Minnesota dove into and studied."

That's an exciting thought...for those who still have their wits about them.

lol, oh c'mon now.....we'd all love that because it would mean something special for wins and that all elusive playoff win and beyond under KOC.

I'm almost past my mourning stage with 9. I personally severely and grossly overestimated McCarthy's impact on this team when drafted...that's getting harder and harder to deny. I still have hope but if I 'trust in KOC' then I have to trust his assessment of McCarthy seeing it all up close and personal. See, I'm fine:

Don't. Why would anybody trust in the assessment of O'Connell at this point? He hasn't won squat, has never developed a young quarterback, and he's playing this upcoming year as if his job is on the line (because it probably is). To me, he has as much or more to prove than any of the quarterbacks this year.

Yeah, we differ on our opinions on KOC....I trust him and believe in him more than you. My only main criticism is it appears he's throwing out the baby with the bathwater already. It is what it is.

I think KOC's tale will be told this year with Kyler Murray. If he hits, it'll be tough to say he doesn't know what he's doing. In fact, you wont be able to say that. If he doesn't, he'll have taken a swing with Murray and have nothing left of value for him with McCarthy. Starting all over at the position. Gross.

Interesting that Breer mentions that there was a brief conversation with Murray about adding a 2nd year to the contract. I'll bet it was brief. Hey, I'm happy they asked about it. But obviously not surprised Murray turned it down.

....that just adds some heft to the idea that KOC has or is moving mentally beyond JJM as QBOTF.

Like I said..if KOC replaces Wes Phillips...you'll know he's feeling the heat.  The reorganization is almost always a prelude to change.

Watch how much 'better' Phillips coaches when you have improved QB1 play and a healthy offensive line.

Gossip is fodder for fumble brains.

This is a total coup for us, at least for one year.

If Murray lights it up, pay him big money because here’s the thing with Kyler, you don’t have to have a well above average offensive line because of his elusiveness.

In this scenario you still can get a first out of MCarthy, or just keep him as a backup/ developmental QB.

Most likely Kyler plays really well and then we make our decision based on the market and 9’s progress.

You'll never, ever get anything close to a first round pick for JJM. Not sure what the scenario would be where Minnesota would commit long-term to Murray AND be able to trade JJ for a first round pick. Murray is a 'coup' right now because he hasn't played a game for the Vikings....the rest remains to be determined big time.

I'm glad to see a few on the board are REALLY excited over signing Murray and that potential....but it'll be interesting to watch it play out. One thing that's nice is Kyler was gently used last season...he should be bright eyed and bushy tailed once he's 100% from that foot injury.

We'll see how the year plays out.  There's lots of ways the season can play out particularly with the injury history of both QBs.  It wouldn't shock me to have at least one game with Brosmer starting.

A smart thing to do this year is get a new QB3 candidate other than Brosmer. If KOC wants to continue to 'upgrade the QB room', don't forget about developmental. Maybe a guy like Taylen Green from Arkansas. I had mentioned Drew Allar a few weeks ago, but I think he's going to be overdrafted by some team now as he's gotten some low level buzz for some reason.

A scenario where we could get a 1st for McCarthy would be if he plays exceptionally well in the preseason, then Murray misses three or four games and JJ comes in and continues to play at a very high level. I think teams would then see him how they saw him two years ago. National Champion, top 10 pick who's only 24 years old, and who’snow proven he can play in the NFL at a high level. That would draw a 1st. That could actually keep him in Minnesota too.

Yeah, my point is one or the other happens, not both.
