Geno a Jet...again? Man, you can't even make this up. Just goes to show that when you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way, from your first cigarette to your last dyin' day.

Yep, been saying that for a while now. Kirk will be one of the best color commentators the NFL has ever had. He's just so good at it. I don't think he's done playing yet though.

Yup, I know you've posted similar sentiments...He's already out-pacing where Brady was yr2 imo. And Brady (to his credit) really improved from his rook season behind the mic.
I do wonder if the Vikings have Kirko on the radar at all at this point? He'd have to be a consideration assuming they want Murray and dont land him.
But Kirko might also be looking for one more contract > 1 yr.

Somebody has been thumbin' through their old LP's today.....
I dunno if it's gonna be Murray or not.
They can't talk (officially) until tomorrow.
Assume he is off the board...
Then the most logical, frankly, is Kirko. He knows KOC's offense. Remember, it took him half the first season to understand it?
That would also change the dynamic with JJM. It would position Cousins clearly as a mentor, a backup...as JJM would be effectively handed the QB1 position.
With Kyler Murray...it's different.

This is exactly how I feel.
Kirk would be a far better mentor to McCarthy than any other QB out there, IMO, and Kirk needs to understand that it would be his role first and foremost.
We need to let McCarthy play the entire 2026-2027 season, providing he stays healthy. It's impartative for his growth and for the long-term assessment of this team's future. Sitting on the sidelines is not going to help him in any way, IMO. Keep in mind that if for some reason McCarthy is not the guy long term, the QB class coming into the 2027 draft is projected to be solid.

I don't agree with that. What's more, both Mayfield and Darnold mentioned their years on the bench in LA and SF respectively was the best thing for their growth. Agree that Kirk would be a good option is Kyler falls through.

I'd submit that Baker had been on the Browns, who have a seriously warped culture and are still carrying the masseuse-perv they replaced Baker with, despite injuries and a crap record.
Darnold had started with the Jets...who are just plain lost, have been for decades.
Not the same situation.
KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

Darnold and Baker also both had four years of starts to display their skills or lack thereof prior to their pine time. McCarthy hasn't even had one year.
EDIT- Sticky beat me to it

So both of those guys played at least 4-5 times as many games, if not more, in the NFL before being benched....god knows how many more snaps. This is why JJ needs to play this year, if its a subpar one then bench him in 2027 and make him QB2. He hasn't even played enough snaps to know anything yet nor to be judged on. He's played in 10 games. Mayfield played almost 70 games before being benched. Sam Darnold started almost 40. That's the difference IMO. And all that 'learning' happened with other teams, after the originally drafted teams gave up.
MB's admirable Vikings optimism is causing some fairly cavernous holes in his takes lately :P @"MaroonBells".
Deep down MB you gotta know benching the QBOTF after 10 starts in which the team was 6-4 is pretty goofy. For Mahomes or someone sure but... Murray? Cousins? Ugh
I do agree Murray could make us a top 4 team in NFC...So sure, fan my fan hope I guess.
But as far as signing olde Kirk? He aint coming here to back-up or to mentor.
No way thats where his head is at yet.
