Vikings @ Chargers
Chargers -3
This isn’t the same Charger team we expected when the schedule came out. But neither are the Vikings. Chargers have the 3rd ranked passing offense and a mid-tier running game, further weakened by the loss of Harris and Hampton. Defensively, they’re remarkably similar to the Vikings. Vikings rank 7th in pass defense, Chargers 8th. Vikings rank 18th in run defense, Chargers 19th.
I see a bit of a comeback game for Wentz in this one mostly because he should get a little better protection. Tart and Caldwell have been good in the middle for them, but Caldwell’s questionable with an illness and Tart is no Jalen Carter. After trading Bosa, the Chargers are left with a rotation of 36-year-old Khalil Mack, Tuli Tuipulotu and Bud Dupree. The Vikings have seen better edge rushers. Darrisaw and O’Neill win this one.
What concerns me is Justin Herbert. This is the best QB the Vikings have faced this year. With all the inuries to the OL, the Chargers have struggled to protect him but he’s still moving the ball well, on pace for 4,500 yards and 32 TDs. If the Vikings aren’t able to get pressure on Herbert (and he may get Joe Alt back for this one), this could be a loooong Thursday night. Bet the over.
I think Wentz will play better in this one too...Hopefully O'Neil will play, I believe he was held out of practice?
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

I think that's just maintenance for his previous injury. Or at least I hope it is.

It’s all walkthroughs this week. Almost positive it’s maintenance.

Given the state of their OL, I expect that LAC will use a short passing attack just as we saw in the Pittsburgh game.
Looks like Alt will be back.

whats the logic on holding out a guy from walk throughs if he isnt at much of a risk of contact/injury? if he is good enough to play, I would think he could participate in walk through.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

So he can sit in the training room and get treatment and further recovery time.

When it comes to reporting injury participation in walkthroughs, the coaches have to generalize what they player would have been able to do in a FP.
-3.5 now.
Going on the road on a short week is a huge ask for the defense after a physical Eagles game. The Chargers lost to Indy, but they were at home in that one too.
So the deck is stacked against us in that regard. I'm guessing LAC will hit some big plays on us, just like Philly did. Even so, hopefully the defense and special teams can keep us in the game. Which leaves the offense...
I really want us to pepper Jefferson in this one. It's time to lean on our best player. Sadly, I don't trust Wentz' deep ball right now so I hope KO sticks with the short-to-mid passing attack that Addison had some success with last game. Looking at the Chargers schedule, they have not faced a receiver close to Jefferson's caliber yet this season. With Addison back I'm hopeful those two can light things up for us and match some of the expected big plays for the Bolts.
You can also see that Wentz wants to hit his tight ends. Hockenson and Oliver have been comfortable but ineffective targets the past few weeks. Maybe they can do something?
I don't feel great about this game, but that seems to be when the Vikings play their best.

that should be a requirement for Thursday night games, both teams have to travel to some extent. . the home team has to have played on the road the previous week.

Pretty brutal that we not only get the Thursday night game, but have to fly to west coast for it, that is especially brutal for the short week

They really boned us on the schedule this year. Win 14 games one year, here's your reward the next...

No worries, Wince is 7-0 on Thursday night games & 6-0 against the spread!
THat's great because the Vikings haven't won a Thursday night game since 1978.

I think you meant a Thursday night road game and yes it's been almost as long as the SB appearance drought.
Darrissaw is now listed as questionable for this game.

Yes road game, thanks for the correction
This thread should never be seen by a Vikings fan considering self-harm. Holy SH*T, it's morbid in here!
"Wince" is maddening, but he can be equally maddening for opponents. He still has a full larder of skill players to work with, and it's not like the Chargers are any kind of juggernaut right now.
The defense definitely needs to get its turnover mojo back, and Herbert is almost Wentz-like in being specifically terrible at terrible times. I'm hoping Flores makes his life hellish, tonight.
This game can regather some momentum. Trust me, I feel the chaotic, whacko vibes around the team right now. I think the continual issues with JJM are having huge mental and emotional effects on team and fans alike. That said, we still have the pieces to make any opposing team worried. Tonight, I'm hoping the Chargers spend 4 quarters in all-out panic, with their fans snarling about Herbert's pay at least as loudly as anyone ever did about Kirk's...!
Oh, and Jettas gets that 8000 yard mark, tonight.
KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....
