OT: Chad Powers
Freakin' hilarious...on Hulu.
Glen Powell is awesome as this geeky, homely but bizarrely talented QB that nobody's heard of looking for redemption, while also playing this arrogant prick of a person who deserved all the hate for blowing the National Championship game years earlier. It's pretty amazing watching Powell go from one character to the other in the same scenes. Some big time football dramedy. Definitely some cringe-worthy OMG funny stuff.
The fifth episode drops today. I've even watched some of the previous episodes more than once...there are Easter Eggs in there if you look twice (saw one in episode 4).
Overview
"Chad Powers" is a half-hour comedy series co-created by Glen Powell and Michael Waldron. The show follows Russ Holliday, played by Glen Powell, a once-prominent college quarterback whose career has been derailed due to his misbehavior. To start anew, he disguises himself as Chad Powers and joins a struggling college football team in Southern Georgia.
Inspiration
The character of Chad Powers originated from a prank by former NFL quarterback Eli Manning during his ESPN+ show, Eli's Places. In this sketch, Manning posed as a 41-year-old aspiring college quarterback trying out for the Penn State football team, which laid the groundwork for the series.
Eli and Payton Manning are both listed with Powell and others as Executive Producers. My hat is off to Powell for feeling comfortable enough in his own skin to make fun of himself as both characters.
Love, love, love this show!! His Chad Powers character reminds me a lot of Bobby Bouche. Episodes 1-3 were great. Episode 4, ok. Going to watch episode 5 tonight. Only thing I wish they did was have more game action.S
Side note: Powell is in the new Running Man movie. Loved the original, this one looks good as well.
Agree, great show and especially interesting that it is based off Eli Manning's prank of Penn State. If you have never seen that, I have posted link below.
One of the main characters is played by Perry Mattfeld who is Mark Sanchez's wife, who is an excellent actress, she did a great job as the main character on a show In the Dark.
