Darrisaw, the 315-pound blocker, is more than 10 months removed from the two torn ligaments in his left knee that ended his 2024 season.

He has “checked every box from a workload standpoint,” O’Connell said, during his ramp up to Week 1.

Darrisaw said playing is a joint decision that starts with the training staff’s clearance. He said “things do feel different” with his surgically-repaired left knee, which was supported by a brace during Wednesday’s practice.

“I got to have confidence in myself mentally, physically,” Darrisaw said. “I know I got to be there all the way. You just don’t want to put yourself in a worse position or kind of like half stepping. When I have that confidence and just knowing I’m ready to rock out, I’ll be out there.”

O’Connell said “we’ll see how he feels” after a heavy workload in Wednesday’s practice.

“Things have been going well,” Darrisaw said after practice. “Better than I expected, better than what some of them expected as well, so things are definitely going in the right direction.”

The endurance of Darrisaw’s left knee would be a reason the Vikings may still hold him out, O’Connell said. Tackle Justin Skule, the 28-year-old journeyman who signed with the Vikings in March, would start if necessary.

“It’s more so just about knowing we’ve got 17 games, including a short week next week, and ultimately our trip overseas,” O’Connell said.

“There’s got to be a big-picture mindset to a player of Christian’s caliber.”

“What that means for Monday night,” he added, “I don’t know as of right now. I just know what my eyes have shown me, what Christian has demonstrated.”

“I don’t know as of right now. I just know what my eyes have shown me, what Christian has demonstrated.”

The article made me concerned that maybe he will not be ready until this last line.  This is the key quote that I see I as I have to believe both of what he is referring to is that he is ready otherwise I do not think he would make that kind of statement.

For me its all about how much confidence Darrisaw has in it, or not yet...

I think the fact we all thought it was a mortal lock he's starting and now some questions? Makes me think it was never as certain as fans thought...

It would not surprise me at all if they wait a game or 2...Especially with 1/2 a mos of needing to play overseas.

I don’t think you can read too much into anything. Everyone that was a question mark will remain a question mark until the day of. It just is what it is.

If there's any questions at all I hope they sit him for longer. The consequences of a quick aggravation or re-injury are too dire to mess around with in Week 1.

But the article also sez that they need to see how his leg is after a heavy workout yesterday.  His leg has to be strong enough and not get fatigued is what I am reading.

Yeah, I mentioned this in another thread earlier. I wouldn't give it so much credence if Chicago's turf didnt suck so much ass. I think its 80% he won't start, although he would have in any other stadium.

But.....he did practice as the starting LT all practice Thursday. You'd think they'd give Skule the first team reps if they planned on starting him. This is why I don't say its impossible. They said they were going to do the same thing today and then decide.

80% is a big ##!

I suspect today will be their decision day?

He had that heavy workload Wednesday.

Well, you know what our poster in absentee would say about Wolfson lol...

If I were the Vikings? I would keep the fans and Bears guessing till game-time.

He'll play, but he may be on a pitch count.

I was thinking the same.  After we roll over them for 250 yards rushing, he will give way to Skule.

I think there's a lot of that going on.

If he's not 100% and with Soldier Field's turf being brand new and easy to slip on. I'd rest him. We want him long term. We can pound the bears without him.

The Saw was a FULL participant in the walkthrough practice today. Huge. This kid is going to start Game 1 of the season after getting major ACL surgery in November. NOVEMBER. 9.5 months later he's starting. Couldn't be better news for JJM.

Its not official....but its official. No way they start him if they don't feel he's 100%. A big wow.

That would be good news - if they are REALLY 100% sold.  That turf there always is a worry. POS is what it is.

I like what some other poster mused - pitch count.

JMO, you don't pitch count an offensive lineman. He's either good to go or he isn't. He's the LT, JJ's blind side. If he starts, its because he's rocking it. And he'll play the whole game barring a Viking blowout. Again, IMO.

Well, we know Jim and Megan approve

Vikings safety Harrison Smith is progressing toward a full return to action.

Smith has missed practice time recently because of a personal health issue, but he took part in the team’s walkthrough on Wednesday. He took another step forward on Friday when he took part in practice on a limited basis.

Left tackle Christian Darrisaw also took a step in the right direction. Darrisaw is dealing with a knee injury and moved from limited to full practice participation.

Running back Zavier Scott (ankle) and defensive back Elijah Williams (hamstring) remained out of practice. Wide receiver Jalen Nailor (hand) and linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel (neck) were listed as full participants for the second straight day.

The Vikings will practice again on Saturday before issuing injury designations for Monday night’s game against the Bears.

I would disagree.  The wednesday workload was to test stamina IMO.  If he can rock it for a half, wouldn't he start?

Dunno, I guess we shall see.
