Male Cheerleaders?

Anybody else catch this? The Vikings now have male cheerleaders that will be flip flopping around with the female cheerleaders this year. I'm already getting my balls busted over it at work. "Vi-queens" living up their names and all kinds of things. I'm sure I'm not the only one..

I know the Wilfs are the most progressive of progressive owners and use the teams platform to support any and every one of their social causes, but dudes....do you not have a read on who your audience is and who makes up a majority of your fanbase? This is akin to the Bud Light debacle, in that a majority of the fanbase (safe assumption) does not want to see male cheerleaders flopping around and twerking with their pompoms during the games. I've heard some rumor that their are season ticket holders threatening to cancel their tickets over this. Anybody else heard anything similar? It sure would be nice if the league and owners would just focus on football and stop trying to cram social narratives that most don't agree with down the throats of their fanbases. Just a thought

Male cheerleaders have been around for years. If someone told me the Vikings already had some or were going to add some, I wouldn't be phased.

I admit that I definitely am not going to step away from the TV if a group of attractive female cheerleaders come on the screen, however in looking at it from a more objective level, is it a practice that is sexist and outdated? I did not want my daughters going out for cheerleading. I had always told them to be the ones on the field that others were cheering for. They both went on to do extremely well in sports and I was their biggest male cheerleader.

Badger, loved the story and images of Robin Williams as cheerleader! Such an excellent comedian with perfect time. Gone too soon!

Can you tell me how to reply to a post and include the text but not the images? Thanks!

I always hit reply and than delete the image (or a long thread) in the reply by holding the cursor to the right of it and hitting backspace or select the image and hit delete.  I didn't realize you were new.  I thought you were a rename of one of another Idaho monikers.  Welcome to the board!  Feel free to reach out if you have questions.

I think there's a way to include male cheerleaders that I would consider tasteful and that wont send woke meters off the charts...

Whether the Vikings decide to be a bit more conservative with it (or not) remains to be seen. It's hard not to offend anyone, but its not impossible.

Hell, Bama does it well imo:

I agree,  I heard about this a day or two ago and it was a non starter for me,  dont care, colleges have been using male cheerleaders for years and I have never had an issue with it,  however after hearing today from a work colleague from the cities that has seen more interviews and apparent online shit,  this sounds like a much different approach and will be more akin to a social justice thing with the male cheerleaders pushing the limits of their agenda... how this is known at this time I have no idea,  but its what he was hearing around NE MNPLS.

It would be nice if we could just have 1 season without a shit load of drama,  not a QB controversy,  not a contract issue,  not coaches on the hot seat,  and not off the field shit.

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

And nobody dying.. Speaking of off field stuff..McCarthy's girlfriend is very pregnant. Any idea on timing? Is it possible he misses a game due to the birth?

An article I read said the first week of September

Start you 1st NFL game and become a first time father in the same week, that's a BIG week.

Awkward timing.  Anybody want to open the season in Chicago with Sam Howell under center?

How is this helpful in winning a championship and why is it necessary?

It's not and it isn't. The Wilfs would promote transgender albino squirrel month if it were a thing. They might as well complete the circle of stupidity at this point and sign Colin Kaepernick to the roster and invite Tampon Tim to blow the Gjallahorn at the home opener.

Hey Zygi and Mark, stop using the franchise to promote your social justice causes that most of your paying fanbase doesn't agree with, it doesn't tend to end well. Bud Light says hello.

We’ll find out eventually that the Vikes were given a nice tax break by Tampon Tim For advocating his message. lol. We know it’s motivated by sending a message rather than improving the fan experience by their outfits, but there are a lot of other stupidities out there to fix that are more important. I’ll focus on them.

You don't agree with it, that doesn't make most of the fanbase.  And if anyone is promoting political views and agendas it is you, so how about giving it a break.  Thought we were not going to express our political views on this site.

I would venture to guess if you took a silent poll of the fanbase, an overwhelming majority would elect to not have males dressed in cheerleading gear and pom poms as part of their cheer squad. That's a reasonable assumption considering most football fans are heterosexual males.
As far as opinions go, the Wilfs served it up as a talking point (like they wanted) so people are going to talk about it. Feel free to not read it if you are offended.

You don't say?  A sport predominately watched by beer drinking middle aged males and you'd be surprised they'd vote...."yes show me more hot 20 year old girls dressed in scantily clad uniforms"

You're really going out on a limb there supa

I can honestly say, I'm not sure I've ever really seen any Viking cheerleaders on TV.  Maybe just before kickoff of the halves if they're doing B roll?  Probably because I'm going to the bathroom or garbing food/drink.  And when I go to a game, I'm cheering for the players on the field.  I've never really spent anytime caring about some 20 yr old chick or now dude with pompoms.

Follow up question....if I cheer for the male members of the Viking team am I gay?  Or whatever social agenda I guess the Vikings have crossed?  I'd really like to see the Vikings win a super bowl before I die.

agreed.  I don't care.  Don't give my money to the NFL in any way as I don't agree with so much of what they do.  I just try to enjoy the games and talking football with the guys.

But as you say, would be nice if they could cut the drama, just be a football team.  Nobody cares about the cheerleaders anyway except for the 13 year old boys and the girls that somehow have this as a goal in life.  Get rid of them all together and then we can watch more football.

There’s a circle of stupidity on this board and I know who is in the center.

We're talking about cheerleaders here, man.  I wish I was more surprised that there are people who are genuinely pissed this is happening, but this is big 2025 after all.  It takes a certain lack of maturity to throw a fit about this.  Like, we had a gay player at one time.  I mean Prince was a huge fan of the Vikings, is honored by this team, and he wore high heels for fucks sake. Who gives a shit? If this bothers someone that much...go be a fan of another team.  No one is forcing anyone to be a Vikings fan.

When you own your own team, you can run it however you want.  Until then, shut up about things that don't affect the on-the-field product.

I think a significant percentage of us don't care about the Male Cheerleaders except as a pattern of virtue signaling by the Wilfs. Let's be honest. If there was a way to have a Transgender player on the team...the Wilfs would be all over it. Part of its their Twin Cities base but I think part of it is in the Wilfs fabric as well. Until there's a transgender player...I guess the Wilfs will just have to settle for Van Ginkel...dude does have great hair...lol.

Were people asking for this to happen or was it a very vocal minority..or was it just the Wilfs? Don't know...and really don't care but the Wilfs need to be wary of their base...much the same as the Budweiser Exec that decided insulting your hardcore customers was the way to go. Why make an unforced error to potentially alienate your strongest base?

Again...not a big deal as a single issue...but is an issue for some as a pattern of wokeness with the Wilfs and the NFL for that matter. Maybe we can dial back the back and forth insults a little?
