"Kirk Cousins felt 'misled' after Falcons drafted Michael Penix Jr."
Yep, that's life in the big city, nothing is guaranteed. You went for the bag and got it, can't look in the rearview now. He says he was hurt and if affected his play....ok....but the organization inserted Penix and haven't looked back. You'd think if they thought his poor play was injury-related only they'd have a competition this year for the starting job. Cousins is a competitor so I'm sure this is a blow to his ego, but they named Penix this year's starter many months ago. My guess is its for a reason.

I've always been bemused by the number of people who seem to be Kirk haters because the guy maximized his earning potential. Was watching a segment this morning and they were ripping him a new one over his comments -- basically saying he "got what he deserved" because he took the best financial deal to go to Atlanta. Great person, great teammate, competitor. Mid to upper-mid QB. All the haters mystify me.
That said, Cousins is in no position to cry. There are no promises in this league. Did Atlanta do him dirty? I don't know -- they have to do what is best for the franchise, and that likely changed when they had the opportunity to grab Penix and ride a QB on a rookie deal.
My guess is Cousins becomes a hot commodity if a starter on a high-level team goes down with an extended injury.
No hate from me, I just knew we hit the ceiling with the guy. Never going to be a Superbowl team with Kirk Cousins. Time to turn the page and Kirko maneuvered that although KOC wanted him for another year. But lets not act like it isn't telling that the Falcons bagged on Cousins before the end of Year 1 on a gigantic guaranteed contract and named Penix the starter for the 2025 season at the END of the 2024 season.
Cousins will always be a little underrated but ultimately never changed the narrative for himself. Unless Atlanta eats a bunch of contract, he won't be traded anywhere.

There are conflicting reports about whether or not Cousins was told by the Vikings that they were likely or unlikely to draft a QB if he returned.
It seems to me the writing was on the wall in Minny. IMO the Vikings were definitely going to take a QB regardless of whether or not he signed with the Vikings. It was in my mind anyway.
If I remember right, the Vikings offer to Cousins was for only 2 years. I believe the Vikings ideal plan was to have Cousins be the bridge for whatever QB they drafted in 2024, giving them a valuable trade asset this offseason if the QB they selected looked like he could play.
I never thought it was 2 years, it never made sense to me. One year with maybe a year option for another. That seems to be verified by Kirk here in this video from 'Quarterback':

The Vikings made Kirk Cousins an offer for more than one year that included guaranteed money in year two, sources tell
@alec_lewis and me. Ultimately, the Falcons’ offer exceeded how far Minnesota was willing to go. The team is now focused on maximizing a flexible future.

I think teams are under the impression that you can do well with mid QBs if everything else is right. Brad Johnson, Eli Manning, Nick Foles, Joe Flacco, Brock Purdy, Jimmy G, Rex Grossman, Matt Hasselbeck are just a few examples of who I would consider "mid" QBs who played in Super Bowls. Some of them are downright sub-mid if that's a word...Dilfer, Collins, Delhomme...
I remember that, but watch the video and tell me if that's what he communicates. It doesn't to me. He said 'year to year'. Maybe I'm wrong.....

Kirko had options, but he really wanted one last chapter as a starting QB while the Vikings wanted an infusion of youth plus savings. It's not a new story.
For all the pissing, moaning, and grousing about his contracts, Washington basically taught him that he had to value himself, because even the team he was producing for wouldn't. He learned, he earned.
He won the moneyball part of the game, but seeing the grumbling towards him at 30-40 million when the Herberts, Allens, and similar go soaring towards 60 million...eh...at some point, people need to admit they're b*tching because they want to, not because the reasoning is solid. His last quarters for the team had him top 2 in QB yards/TDs, so it's whack to claim he wasn't living up to the investment.
If/when he gets past the "starting role/pay" mindset, he'd still be an amazing backup for JJM as a mentor and also as a proven, positive locker room presence. I don't know if that'll happen, but it'd be an ideal situation.
Well Kirk wasn't and isn't worth what the Herberts and Allens get, you know? And he won't be any kind of mentor, IMO he'll retire before he does anything like that. He'll be 37 years old next month. And if Atlanta still thought he had some real juice, there'd be a competition this year for the starting job. They didn't sign him for $180 million to sit behind Penix, but something in their mindset definitely changed toward the last half of last season. I liked Kirk's time here in Minnesota very much, I really did....but it was time for him to move on.
