Josh Oliver Extended
The #Vikings have agreed to a contract extension for TE Josh Oliver, per me and @TomPelissero.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) June 10, 2025
Vikings signed TE Josh Oliver to a three-year extension for $23.25 million with a max value of $27.5 million, including 11.9M in new guarantees and $19.9M in total guarantees, per Andrew Kessler of Athletes First.

Overreaction in 3…2…1

Per reports, the Vikings see a 3-year window to win a Super Bowl with JJ McCarthy on a rookie deal. They obviously see Oliver as a big part of that. Supa-sized overreactions notwithstanding.

Yes, I saw that reference to the 3-year window as well.
If they figure he's contributing, their opinion is worth far more than mine.

^^^ at the bold...
That struck me as crazy at first, but they're "right on" if the kid pans out.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

I’ll settle for 1, but in reality I really need 4.

I guess I had not looked at any of the analytics about Oliver. He ranked far better than I assumed. I knew he was a good blocking TE, but overall? Did not know that he led the NFL last year and was 4th in 2023 in run-blocking grades:
===
According to analytics site Pro Football Focus, Oliver led the NFL among tight ends with a 74.2 run-blocking grade in 2024 and earned the fourth-highest grade during the 2023 season with a 73.9.
During the 2024 season, Oliver posted single-season career highs in receiving yards (258) and receiving touchdowns (three) and tied his career best in receptions with 22 in 15 games, including 12 starts. He additionally recorded 50 receiving yards in consecutive weeks for the first time in his career with his Week 9 (58 yards) and Week 10 (52) performances.
Oliver boasted the second-highest rating among all tight ends in 2024 with at least 20 targets, catching 22 of his 28 targets for 258 yards and three touchdowns for a 140.8 rating, according to Next Gen Stats. Only Baltimore's Mark Andrews — who hauled in 55 of his 69 targets for 673 yards and 11 touchdowns — finished with a better rating of 140.9.
I think the guarantee is what? $12mm or $13mm?
Not bad considering how he ranks in blocking per pff.

When he was originally signed the book was he had underrated and underutilized hands. Seem on target, pun intended.

Going out on a small limb, this is the first exchange between Kevin O'Connell and Josh Oliver after Oliver signed a 3-year extension, worth roughly $23M today. #Vikings pic.twitter.com/XKbaN5boD8

Takes a big dude to make KOC look short.

Oliver is dominant in the run game and has pretty decent hands. Not flashy like many want but he consistently shows out on film.
I’ve been an Oliver fan and supporter even when at times it’s been unpopular. Still am. Seems like a lot of money to tie up in the TE room.
Maybe they’re timing this so they can find a way to afford Addison? Maybe I’m coping??

It will be interesting to see if they can afford Addison. Bengals found a way to pay Burrow, Chase and Higgins. If the Vikings hope to do the same (and also pay Turner), they'll have to draft well in 2026.

The Bungles found a way to throw $ at those guys, but their all world DE is still holding-out the cup and dreaming of another payday.
Interesting decisions they made.
I agree, they are going to make it (much) tougher on themselves if they dont get higher % of the roster on rook contracts going forward.

Great run blocker. It's like having another tackle on the field. Hope to see more out of him in the passing game this season because we'll need it and he is the defacto backup

Vikings saved over $5M in 2025 cap space with Josh Oliver’s extension. And with the savings of the post June 1st cut of Bradbury, Vikings now have over $23M in cap space for this year, which can be used this year or rolled over into next year (when the Vikings will need it).
