My "look back at" signing to applaud
Lots of upgrades on both lines of scrimmage to get excited about.
I think this guy is going to have a huge impact:

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
Word is, he's a leader on the field and a leader in the locker room.
Similar (not quite) measurables to Kevin Williams.
Here's the book on him (right now)
Jonathan Allen has a strong reputation as a talented and versatile defensive tackle in the NFL, particularly for his ability to disrupt the opposing team's offense and his leadership qualities. He is known for his high-end production, longevity, and impact on the field.
Here's a more detailed look at his reputation:
High-End Production:
Allen is recognized for consistently performing at a high level, especially as a pass rusher. He has been a Pro Bowler multiple times, demonstrating his impact on the game.
Versatile Player:
Allen can play various defensive tackle positions, making him a valuable asset for teams.
Leadership and Longevity:
He has been a leader and a team captain, setting a high standard for his teammates and demonstrating a strong commitment to his team.
Impactful Player:
Allen's ability to disrupt the opposing offense, particularly as a pass rusher, has made him a key part of the teams he's played for.
Strong Resume:
Allen has a strong resume, including accolades like Pro Bowl selections, and he was a standout player during his time at the University of Alabama.
So why did he become available?
The Washington Commanders cut Jonathan Allen primarily to save salary cap space, as he was due a $15.5 million base salary and had no guaranteed money left on his contract. The Commanders also couldn't find a trade partner willing to take on his contract, despite Allen's trade request. This decision allowed them to save approximately $16.3 million in cap space.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Salary Cap Savings:
Releasing Allen saved the Commanders a significant amount of money against their salary cap, which was a key factor in the decision.
No Guaranteed Money:
Allen's contract had no guaranteed money remaining, making him a prime candidate for release.
Trade Request and No Trade Partner:
The Commanders granted Allen permission to seek a trade, but ultimately, they couldn't find a trade partner willing to take on his contract.
New Regime:
Allen himself mentioned that a new regime came in, and he wasn't a part of their plans.
Performance Regression:
While Allen was a two-time Pro Bowler, his performance had been declining, and he also suffered a pectoral injury in the 2024 season.
The Vikings have developed a knack for signing recently injured players in FA, only to help nurse them back to health and keep them healthy.
Just like the franchise's reputation as a class organization to work for, this focus on physical rehabilitation is one that should not be overlooked.
Just one more competitive edge factor.

He's definitely that. Love the kind of leadership he shows in this clip. I think Allen, with Greenard, Van Ginkel, Phillips, Hargrave, etc is going to take this defense to a new level.

Tone setter and vocal leader. Definitely something needed in the DL room. Just stay healthy and we’re golden. This D might rival the 89 squad for sack production and sheer talent.
Can’t wait!

Agreed.
Allen is a complete ass kicker and a game wrecker, he was voted #88 #53 and #54 by NFL players since 2022
Tillery and Ward just aren't in the same league as Allen.
And he'll light someone's ass up too if they deserve it.
