the kids got branding up the ying/yang...If he can win on the field? This town will blow-up over him.
It'll be much watch tv to see it all unfold...
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
The biggest hope I have for the kid (besides the obvious, y'know, excellent play/leadership we all want) is that he is consistently such a good player, person, and what-not that he manages to dodge the inevitable waves of naysayers that pummel our QBs.
I want the kid to (positively) knock us ALL down with how great of an addition he is. We need a break from decades of QB grousing.
KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

I think we'll all be pleasantly surprised with how well he plays this season. He's built different.
I tend to agree. I mean you never really know what you have until he plays in a real game with live bullets and regular season defenses trying to confuse the hell out of him, but I think what a lot of his detractors are missing is his high floor in this offense. No doubt he's going to have his ups and downs—hell, he's 4 years older than my son, who still cries—but I think when it all shakes out we'll be very happy with young JJ.
I was looking at something I wrote about a year ago: "Vikings finish 9-8 behind strong performances from the Brian Flores’s defense and Sam Darnold. Darnold will get many nods for Comeback player of the year, but will lose to Rodgers or Cousins, because technically, you have to have been good at one point for it to qualify as a “comeback.” Darnold will get most improved award and parlay his ’24 performance into a top 20 contract from the Raiders."
Not bad. But I didn't say this because I thought Darnold was the shit. I said this because of KOC, and Jefferson and Addison and Hockenson and two very good tackles. JJ's surround is going to be even better. It's not crazy to think it should be MUCH better. If JJ's intangibles—his leadership, work ethic and IT factor—are anything at all like the reports we've been hearing for a year now, Viking fans everywhere are going to love the results.
Interesting. Looking at his prior history (I keep forgetting that life is not always just about college highlight reels), the kid has always been a winner.
J.J. McCarthy finished his high school career with a 36-2 record as a starter. He played at Nazareth Academy for his first three seasons, leading them to a 26-2 record. As a senior, he transferred to IMG Academy and led them to an 8-0 record and a national championship. In all, McCarthy amassed 7,905 career passing yards with 94 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
(For those keeping score at home, that's almost 2,000 yards per season in HIGH SCHOOL)
J.J. McCarthy finished his college career at the University of Michigan with a 27-1 record as the starting quarterback, giving him a winning percentage of .964. This winning percentage is the best in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) history (1978-present).

His team has lost 3 games since he started playing competitive football

You know who the second person on the phone to each Viking draft pick will be?
As much as I'm already months done with the draft babble (as usual), that thought is excellent.
It's the offseason, it's the months for chugging Kool-Aid and obsessing over OTA reports, etc...but, even my cynical soul is wanting to believe in this kid.

He'll win everyone over, despite themselves. He's also got a work Daddy who loves him (KOC). Bring your cynical, your scarred, your disgruntled fans....to the healing waters of Sunfish Lake.
All I know is I could sure use some more highlights of McCarthy - The throws against the Raiders....getting old
