SI.com: To pay or not pay QB Brock Purdy
I get the question and I get the debate, but......what choice does San Francisco have? Trade away or not resign a 25 year old QB you drafted that took you to the Superbowl? Almost everything is risky in the NFL, but is it accurate to say 'very' risky? He's a known quantity....he's young. Personally, I'm not a huge Brock Purdy guy, but I think the 49ers like him a lot. Do they love him? Not sure about that....maybe. But regardless, I just don't think they have much choice here and I fully understand the deficiencies.

Isn't Purdy a similar version of Kirk, Dak, Baker, Smith and Carr?? Offer a team friendly deal because I don't believe some team is going to pony up 45-55 million dollars for him.
Purdy is 27-15 as a starter, including playoffs. An overtime loss away from a ring. San Fran was decimated with injuries last season. Why would Purdy's camp take anything less than what the market rate is for QBs? This is part of why I started this thread, the 49ers really don't have a choice. And why would he take less years on a contract? He's not going to do anything like that....at least in my opinion.
Like I said, I'm not a big Brock Purdy guy, but he's not going to take some kind of lesser-than contract because we fans might think he's a limited QB. If Jordan Love and Tua can break the bank, Brock Purdy sure as hell is going to. Good story here on why he'll get paid eventually at $50+ mill per:

"The first problem the 49ers are going to have is getting Purdy's camp to understand why Purdy should be treated worse than an inexperienced Jimmy Garoppolo since Purdy has done a lot more than Garoppolo ever did when he signed his contract. Garoppolo briefly became the league's highest-paid player in 2018 after just a handful of good starts, following his 2017 midseason trade from the New England Patriots several months earlier. Purdy is the best quarterback Shanahan has had during the eight seasons he has been the 49ers' head coach. Since becoming San Francisco's starting quarterback in 2022 during the latter part of his rookie season, Purdy has the NFL's best passer rating at 106.2 as well as a league-leading 9.0 yards per pass attempt and 13.3 yards per completion (minimum of 500 pass attempts for these categories). Purdy was an NFL MVP finalist in 2023 after completing 69.4% of his passes for a 49ers franchise-record 4,280 yards with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions to post an NFL-leading 113.0 passer rating."
"The 49ers should probably take Super Bowl XXXVII-winning head coach Jon Gruden's words about the quarterback situation to heart during the negotiations but probably won't. "He's covered their ass man. They gave up three first-round draft choices to get a guy (Trey Lance) they got rid of. ... And this guy's (Purdy) the last pick of the draft. He's taken you to the Super Bowl. He's taken you to the brink," Gruden said in New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl LIX. "He deserves to get paid and I'll just leave it at that."

I think the only hand wringing about Purdy is among fans. I doubt the 49ers have even once considered not paying him.
