They had a concerted effort this FA to improve his OL....Add some juice to the DL too..

Olamide Zaccheaus, WR.
Drew Dalman, C.
Dayo Odeyingbo, DE.
Grady Jarrett, DT.
Joe Thuney, G.
Jonah Jackson, G.
Travis Homer, RB.
Devin Duvernay, WR.

I’ll bypass the talent acquisitions and go straight to the HC hire, Ben Johnson.

Caleb Williams is the antithesis of what Johnson wants in a QB. 3rd step hits, 5th step hits, 7th step hits, ball out. End of story. Does this sound at all like Caleb Williams?

No.

Now, is he going to build a good running game around him? Absolutely. Stick with Swift and Roschon Johnson and you’ve got Temu Gibbs and Montgomery. Boom.

D was pretty good until they weren’t. If Poles was smart, and he’s not, take a premium defender at 10, grab another OT next, and insulate Williams from himself.

But, Poles won’t. They’re going to win a little more but the issue that will prevent the Bears from seeing any real improvement is they’ve got the wrong HC for their QB. Oil and water mix.

And how does Ben Johnson handle the transition to HC?

My guess is his career looks more like Mike Martz than Andy Reid. Not a super impressive resume. Who has he learned under?

I'm more of a Ben Johnson fan than you...

I think he's smart enough to adapt his ways and build off Calebs strengths.

We'll see???

I just think he’s in a really bad situation with Caleb. Williams is the guy you want in a pickup game. There’s adapting then there’s changing DNA. I’m not seeing it but there was that one time I was wrong.

Brilliant coordinators don't always translate to the rigors of being the guy in charge.

And I have seen way more coordinators think they had to do it their way rather than adapt to the players they have.  Then they spend money and too much time changing the roster and are fired before their plan truly gets a chance.

We shall see, but I am hoping for my opinion more than yours.  That way it hurts Detroit and Chicago stays irrelevant.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

Detroit isn’t making the playoffs. Far too much brain power gone.

Williams running in circles doesn't work in the NFL. His accuracy isn't elite either.

I know Johnson can design dipsy-doodle trick plays to help Man Campbell look like he has the biggest stones east of the Mississippi, but turning Williams into an NFL pocket passer is a higher bar.

And he has to do that while he learns to be an NFL HC, another steep learning curve. All under the auspices of an organization that has not been very competent over the last 15 or so years.
