I've seen enough. Extend Kwesi already
I realize that Kwesi whiffed badly on his first draft.
He realizes it too.
But then I saw a strange concept called a "competitive rebuild" with a masterful Head Coach who was able to get the most out of players.
So he mortgaged the future, and the cupboards were bare for 2025, as he traded away almost all of our draft picks over the past two years for current players...some were studs (Hockenson), some were bandaids. I get that.
So here we are, in his third FA season, and the Competitive Rebuild seems complete.
I cannot argue with what he has done to stack the roster, and he has kept a lot of his powder dry for the inevitable cap cuts that will be coming.
A Master Class.
Maybe there is something about this Wall Street analytical approach?
I think he will get resigned.
But I want to see another draft...I'm not sure the Wilfs are thinking about things like that, but he has me skittish on draft day.
We need to get younger and cheaper. We wont be dropping $300mm in FA very often.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
Inevitable.
Probably after the draft. I’m just wondering if he doesn’t swing for the fences with this draft. God knows he’s quite willing to move draft capital to get someone he thinks is value.
How many GMs are demonstrably better over the last 3 years ? Snead, Veech, Roseman, Holmes, Beane? How many started with a worse cap situation? He’s top quarter of the league easily.
Our best GM since Jim Finks.

I think we're getting way too far ahead here. His analytic approach to FA has worked well in terms of finding value and identifying impact guys for our offensive and defensive schemes.
I'm still not 100% sold on his drafting which is a big component of being a GM. It's one thing to find guys in FA, but if you aren't supplementing the roster with starters on rookie deals and finding quality depth, you'll have a good, not great roster.
I think he deserves a short extension to see how his more recent drafts pan out. I'm super high on JJ McCarthy, but that was a Kevin O'Connell pick.

This.
He certainly deserves credit for what he's been able to do in free agency when analyzing known talent with the help of some Brzezinski wizardry, but GM's really make their bread in the draft which is the lifeblood of an organization and thusfar those results have been underwhelming. A lot hinges on the progression and impact of McCarthy and Dallas Turner. If those two play great football...sign the man. I think the Vikings are playing this smart though in waiting out an extension and seeing how the season plays out.
We don’t have a clue how this years FA crop will work out. Nearly every one of them is coming off significant injuries. If they stay healthy it’s a smashing success. If they’re all hurt 4 games in we’re in for a world of hurt.
His draft record is staggering, not just only 1 starter out of 23 picks over the past 3 years, but then consider all of the draft capital we have lost in the process. How can you set yourself up for a draft with only a 1st, 5th and 6th, it is just amazing. I can see if we had to trade up to our QB last year, but to spend all the draft capital on one of our least positions of need after just signing two great edge rushers in free agency for a guy who couldn't get on the field was just another awful move. Can't use the excuse that he is young and needs time, that is not the kind of non QB player that you invest that much draft stock in. Seems like a highly educated guy, I would put him in another role in the front office and bring someone else in to run the draft.
I've said this for a while now, but if the Vikings want to start drafting better, the best thing they could do is get Ryan Grigson out of Kwesi's ear. I don't know who made the grand decision to make him (the mastermind of the Trent Richardson trade and several other awful draft decisions) the Senior VP of Player Personnel, but that's the equivalent of hiring the Captain of the Titanic to teach you how to sail a boat. Get rid of the guy.

Yes, there is a systemic issue in drafting that they (at least publicly) have not acknowledged or tried to address...
It's been pretty abysmal; whether viewed through the lens of quality of player or value received in trades.
The fix could be any combination of quality of people, process, experience, org structure, communication across the teams departments etc.
But there is no whisper (or wisp of smoke) that KAM acknowledges an issue, let alone is implementing organizational change to address it.
This is my biggest concern going into the 25 draft; Doing the same thing, the same way, with the same people and expecting a different outcome???
There is a word for that.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
I'm sure Kwesi fully knows good and well and probably has been told this behind closed doors that he cannot survive another "Train Wreck" of a draft...
The 34 wins in 3 years while completely revamping a roster in cap hell was kinda nice.
But, that could just be me.

Yup the regular season record has been great, the post-season? Not so much.
And how they have built the roster the last 3 seasons is just not sustainable.
What a train wreck we would have if the owners weren't so willing to spend (big) in FA.
I'm done with my rant and raving...

Coaching factors more into the wins. It's why KOC has himself a 5-yr extension and Kwesi is still waiting for one.

Ok.
Think about that for a second.
It’ll come to you.
