Hey, in the grand scheme of life, it's nothing. But speaking as a fan in the fan world of this board, can't we just move forward with our top 10 QB we moved up to secure? And maybe that is exactly what Minnesota is going to do, its not up to them to deny or confirm this Rodgers rumor. But I'm not sure about anyone else, but I have drama fatigue with this franchise. Its always one thing or the other. I really thought that was going to change when we let Kirko move on and drafted JJM. Excellent, a top drafted QB that could possibly be a franchise dude. But no, here we are again with more melodrama.

I don't deny that Rodgers might have a really good year in Minnesota. I just don't want this douche here and I don't want the media circus that will become his every pass, his every INT and his every word. And the questions about McCarthy that will come up. And how that will dominate every press conference from now until the season ends. And those that love or hate the move. Etc., etc., etc. Can't it be enough to set the table the way they have for a young guy like McCarthy? After the high and buzz of what appears to be a great FA class, this has brought me back crashing to earth, this possibility.

Like I mentioned, this is not real life, its just entertainment and we're fans. Everyone will be just fine. Its just a bit of a wet towel thrown on the whole thing as a Viking fan IMO. Getting behind Favre was one thing, getting behind Aaron Rodgers is a completely different mindset altogether. Far worse. And if we didn't have JJM, I'd feel differently.....about Uncle Sammy and this scenario. But that isn't the case, is it? That's the rub for me.

Tick tock......

From ESPN:

"The Vikings are clearly the best spot for Rodgers, as they are the best spot for pretty much any quarterback. The reason we're in this whole waiting game is because Rodgers wants the Vikings to be super-duper-sure they don't want him before he commits to another franchise. But there isn't an open job that comes even close to Minnesota's combination of pass protection, playcalling and offensive playmakers. That's why it's such a good job for Rodgers ... but also such a good job for second-year Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy."

Wait until Monday when the Falcons may cut Kirko. Now THAT'S going to get the fanbase in a tizzy.
If this happens, which I think is still a big if, I'd take Kirko back as QB2 in a nanosecond. Less than that. He's be a good QB2 and a great mentor. I just don't see why they'd cut him with so much sunk cost in him for 2025. They need a backup as well.

This post gets the post of the century, Sticky.  I think you picked every word I would say on this subject and I can’t add anything else. What could JJ be thinking about all this, and are they keeping him in the loop about it?? They sure as hell better be.
Great minds! ;)

If the Vikings weren't at least considering it (which according to most reports, they are) then this would have been a done deal already and they would have come out and said we aren't interested in Rodgers and proclaimed JJ as  our starter. They haven't done that and that tells me all I need to know. It's actually been strangely silent on the quarterback front. We are watching the better backups fly off the free agency list over the last four or five days and we haven't signed anyone. I can guarantee you internal discussions are taking place on if Rodgers or JJ gives us the best chance at winning a Super Bowl for this upcoming season. Most pundits say it's Rodgers by a large margin. Are they ready to turn the keys over on a 22 year old kid who missed all of last season with a knee injury and is currently hovering somewhere around 200 pounds in his recovery? I'd honestly probably feel better going into this season with Rodgers as our QB (don't give a shit about perceived quirky personalities) and JJ as the backup. It gives us the best chance to win out the gate, allows JJ time to recover and get some actual game snaps. It also doesn't mean JJ wouldn't take over at some point during the season if Rodgers was injured. I think signing Rodgers and going all in for this season is the smart way to play this and I think the Vikings are giving it a lot of thought.
Putting a lot of eggs in the basket of a guy who's 41 years old and basically booted out of New York. McCarthy doesn't need anymore 'time to recover', that's what people say that want to validate a scenario like signing Rodgers. Its March 16th and he's been cleared for football work. I've said I think Rodgers could be successful in Minnesota, but also he probably should just retire. Especially if he wants Darnold money. Not much tread on those tires and he knows it. Having said this, I do agree that its strangely silent. But having said that, it doesn't take this long for KOC to make a decision either. Rodgers would be signed already IMO if they truly wanted him. Like everyone, enough with the waiting. I think there's a few things we don't know yet....as far as the whole story. Today might be the day for hearing something.

Its super interesting, the Vikings that is. They're negotiating with others, or at least having discussions now. Why would they say they're in or out on Rogers? Hello, keep all parties guessing till the end. I dont read the silence as anything but a good way to play poker.
I think Minnesota were only fringe lookers. And I think Rogers is only interested in playing for Minnesota or he'll just retire. The Vikings are in no rush to do anything as you can tell and that's been giving some rumors the wrong kind of steam.

We are a championship caliber roster ready to win now. For the 2025 season (just this season), does Rodgers give us a better chance to win a Super Bowl or does McCarthy? I love JJ McCarthy, but even I acknowledge that the answer is Rodgers. The Vikings are weighing this out from all angles. We are once again in a window of opportunity after being in cap hell the last four years. You don't waste a year in the window unless they are 100% confident McCarthy is up to the task both physically coming off the injury and mentally as a full time starter.
'Wasting' a year? On 41 year old Aaron Rodgers, who'll be 42 this season? Favre was 39 years old when he came to the Vikings. I can't dismiss that Rodgers could play well, I've said as much. But we can't be sure about that at this age.....and if KOC is wrong, its a big fuck up. And he knows it. The Superbowl or bust pressure that a team faces in this situation, when has it ever ended well? Didn't with Favre. Hell, if Rodgers was more of a dude instead of douche it might be a little more palatable. How does JJM benefit from sitting another year? He doesn't.  Unless the Vikings win the Superbowl, its a less than optimal move. Its the only way it makes sense. That's a really high bar to put on the team. A ridiculous standard with the uncertainty of what is making the Vikings ' a championship caliber' team now....free agency. The new guys haven't played a down in purple together. Its not like last year's roster is intact, we knocked at the door of the Superbowl and we just needed that little extra. And we're going to use the rest of the cap room to sign Rodgers as the starter then also? I don't know, seems very risky to me. I'd rather take the risk of an unknown quantity but highly drafted QB performing and becoming the franchise guy, put the time investment there.

here would “bet” that J.J. McCarthy is the starter and the @Vikings don’t bring Aaron Rodgers in.

Fowler also mentions the comp pick game and how that could be a reason why they haven’t signed a backup QB.

Team needs “dominos” to fall.
