I want OG Tyler Booker with the #24 pick
You've transformed your offensive line into a juggernaut, making the interior questionable to terrifying in one offseason. Those are all big, athletic dudes that will be nastier than ever. With KAM killing it to improve what we all agree are the two most important parts of a football team, OL and DL, Booker pushes you into maybe elite territory where they impose their wills, plus he's good friends with JJM from high school. That gets you at the table with Detroit and Philadelphia. Its a little insane how much the Vikings have improved areas that needed it to move up a level.
JJ is going to feel like he's back at Michigan for that national title run team. And we know what he did with that opportunity. Draft a bigger RB with that 3rd round comp pick to complement AJ and who knows what can happen? I think you'll see an offense that will be truly unpredictable and can run when needed in a real way, that's when you'll see KOC pull away from teams in games instead of these close ones.
You'd have 4 first round picks on that offensive line and Fries. Talk about a 90's Dallas Cowboys kind of team: a dominating offensive line and great skill players. You win a lot of games that way. Important ones.

Totally agree. Booker is the most impressive player I have seen in the draft. He dominates people. The penn st edge and hunter, cam ward are all studs obvi, but Booker would be a home run for us. I’m thinking he goes top 10-15 at latest, so not to hopeful we could get him.
JustInTime wrote:Plus an opportunistic defense that will give that offense plenty of chances to score and now the other team has to play perfectly all game to be competitive. Very tough to do. I'm telling you, it is the way. They just have to do this one more thing, they are so close....if not Booker, another drafted OG that will annihilate and ask questions later. This translates to road games, outside games, hostile environments: snatch their souls and watch them fold up, including the fans. Suddenly, this daunting 2025 schedule doesn't look that daunting. But this idea is growing on me. Especially as someone who watched a lot of Eagles games.
MAD GAINZ wrote:All good stuff, same with Justin, Bull, PF, Knuckle, Canthony and MB. I like the dialogue. Trade down is my Plan B, I like that option. No doubt we could go in almost any direction at #24, which is awesome. But when you have an O-line that kills wills, with the mind of KOC and the skill people and a rookie QB, you do the more of a good thing in the trenches. It can't ever be enough as it translates to the team's overall desire to be Super Bowl level. We won't beat Detroit or Philly without trading blows. Real blows where it matters. Give me 4 first round picks on the O-line and I'll give you a Superbowl team.
I appreciate the sentiment, Sticky. However, this FA class has really opened the door for us to go any direction at 24. I'd rather find a OG on Day 2 or early Day 3. With Brandel and Fries as starters, I think we can wait on the position. I'm firmly in the trade down option to get more picks. If we can end up with a couple picks on Day 2, I'd like to grab a good RB from a deep class and also look at DT or CB. OGs can come from anywhere in the draft. I'd prefer not to use our first round pick on one. There are a lot of versatile OL guys that can be had in the middle of this draft with potential starter upside

You're assuming KOC would trust handing the rock off to close out games. It seems his pass happy self always calls a pass play when it really matters. Now from a results standpoint. It has worked, so give him credit. [hr] Blake Brandel can play guard and tackle. He's a great piece. If someone starts at the LG position Brandel can be your utility guy.

Here's my observation: I saw a lot of posters here drooling over Philly's O-line and what that made them capable of....and rightly so. If you draft a starting OG like Booker at #24, you've gone and put yourself in that zip code with Philly's line IMO. Especially a ball buster like Booker. Darrisaw-Booker-Kelly-Fries-O'Neill: you can ride all the way to a trophy with that crew.
JustInTime wrote:Right on. And maybe it turns out to be a guy like Zabel who has room to get bigger and a little stronger. His shorter arms worry me just a smidge however.
So, a well supported opinion isn’t having an adult conversation? LOL. Ok. [hr] Never would have considered this option until you brought it up. Now that we go into the draft pretty much bulletproof, I am really liking it. A dominant OL is a great deodorant for any shortfall.

Vikings are not drafting a Guard at #24
JimmyinSD wrote:That doesn't sound like the board, are you sure? ;) j/k good call there. And also full credit for predicting the Trey Lance Bustfest.
Uhm...actually I called QB for ATL very early on, got all sorts of shit for it....
JustInTime wrote:I think all of that thought process was very normal. Many draft sites changed their tune on McCarthy after the Combine because some dumb wrong shit was out there about his physical attributes. I liked Penix and still do, but JJM was my top choice of all the QBs and I was consistent throughout on him.
Regardless, a strong take considering the money Atlanta just threw down. Not in a million years do I put QB in Atlanta. Penix was my guy as his deep ball was a great fit for our O. Medical history was a huge concern. Maye was never going to make it to 11 so I never looked too deep into him. Williams was and still is a hard no for me. Bears fans are in for more disappointment as Nail boy doesn't fit what Johnson wants to do. JJ took me awhile to come around on. Early Day 2, no problem. 11, then eventually 10 was understandable but still too rich until he got into the preseason game. It's all there. If he really grew 2" I'd like to see him get up to 225-230. I can teach him how.
purplefaithful wrote:He'll play right at 220 lbs. Its the perfect weight. Like you said when you saw him live, he's thicker than you thought.
He's still really young, that frame screams 215 to me.
What a year for QBs last year.....crazy good. JJ is 2 1/2 to 3 years younger than the guys that were selected in his class. If the Vikings hit on him, he's going to be the QB in Minnesota for a long time. Jaxson Dart is only a few months younger than McCarthy. Cam Ward is older. Sanders a year older.
KOC mentioned in last night's presser he can now play the full playbook. Expect more running, its something he's always wanted to do but couldn't being hamstrung with the shit interior he inherited. I knew damn well the Vikings weren't going to grab a RB at this spot, you've got Thunder and Lightning now with AJ and Mason. They basically ran to the podium with Jackson's name, in under like 3 minutes? Didn't trade down and they could have. Says everything about how they feel about having an ELITE line, not just a very good one. Brandel sucks and I've said as much.....if he didn't, they wouldn't be sticking and picking with Jackson and I'm damn glad they did.
Beautiful. Like I said, don't make the offense more like Michigan for JJ, make it more like Michigan because its just a hell of an offense that takes wills. I applaud you, Viking's organization. You DO know what it takes to win in the playoffs. You now have the line for it.

• C Ryan Kelly
• G/T Donovan Jackson
