Colts GM says to bring in 'real competition' for QB spot

KOC might be on to something: last year, Darnold....this year, Dimes......next year, Richardson....may as well trade JJM now. ;)

Competition is the most overused, meaningless word when we talk about quarterbacks. 

Teams draft guys high with expensive capital, they don't do this to have a competition.  Sam Darnold didn't come here to compete with JJM and the fact he's on the way out the door after a decent year reinforces that reality.
 
Teams occasionally can sign or trade for a higher level guy.  It's not to have a competition, especially not when you just paid a guy 40 million bucks.  See Atlanta Falcons, Kirko for details.

If you decide to have a competition it's because you are pulling guys off the backup scrap heap and hoping maybe one of them will have a lucky year.  A G.M. who says we need to have a competition is incompetent and/or bullshitting to cover his incompetence at finding a real qb. 

Ballard should toss his hat into the "competition" to sign Sam, and help KAM make that tag and trade work by increasing the # of suitors.  Ballard might salvage his job too, don't know.  But Sam vs. Richardson wouldn't be a competition.  Richardson can't hit the target half the time which is way low for the NFL.  It's kind of an important skill when you're throwing the ball.

Agreed. That's why some fans wanting 'competition' for JJM is silly. He's a top 10 drafted QB they moved up for: here's the keys, lets see what you can do.
