Darnold is currency. Use it.
On March 17th, 2021, a year after drafting Jalen Hurts, the Eagles traded Carson Wentz and won a Super Bowl with the return. I know he's not under contract, but we've got to find a way to get something for Sam Darnold. Extension, tag and trade, whatever it takes. We have our QBOTF. Build McCarthy's surround with the currency you built by rebuilding Sam Darnold. It can be done, but it will take some brass. Somehow I don't think we will.
Wentz was traded for two 3rds; Watson was traded for three 1’s, one 3, two 4’s; Wilson was traded for two 1’s, two 2’s, 3 players; Rodgers was traded for two 2’s. NONE of those players had the kind of year Sam did. What's more, Wentz was horrible (16 TDs, 15 INTs), Watson was facing serious legal issues, Wilson was 34 and Rodgers was 40! Sam won 14 games, made the Pro Bowl and is 27 years old.

lol, I know it.....god the team needs freaking draft picks.
I’m 100% certain we’ll accumulate more picks. Guarantee it.

I was all-in on the, "We have to get something for Sam plan, no matter what" for most of the year. Was leading the train at times probably. But after the last two games... Guys we witnessed an historic bed-crapping. I think desperate teams will do desperate things, and Sam was legitimately great last year, but if KAM can't find a return I'll be a lot more understanding than I would have before Week 18.
If there was ever a handshake agreement with Darnold to pay him a bunch of $, rehab his value, then pat him on the butt and let him walk-- when we signed him waaaay late in FA after basically any QB worth a hoot found a home and he was lucky to land here-- then fire everyone.

Those last two games hurt the Vikings in so many ways.

It certainly didnt help their cause....
It's also common sense time.
There's a 27 year old Pro Bowl QB about to hit the FA mkt in a rich league very much in need of QB's.
All it takes is two teams interested and the mkt takes off. I would bet some serious coin 2 franchises will be interested enough to make some substantial offers.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

But will the Vikings even apply the tag? I sure hope so but I have my doubts. And does that tag price go up now that the salary cap has been increased by $25M?
The tag window is open as of a couple of days ago and the 2025 values are set:
Non-exclusive QB is $41,325,000
Transition is $35,267,000
There is also an exclusive tag but the value can't be calculated until restricted free agency ends. Then it's the average of the top 5 QBs, who right now all make over 50 mil.
What's crazy is those guys are Prescott, Burrow, Love, Lawrence, and Tua. I wouldn't pay that kinda money for any of them other than Burrow.
