Turns out I have not heard of a single song sung tonight at the 1/2 time performance. My daughter (16) said several were on her running track.

Oh well, guess we all gotta become fudy dudy at sometime in our lives.

hell i walked out in the 2nd quarter.  a 1923 rerun was more interesting than the game the chiefs brought yesterday.

I can't tolerate most hip hop, but I do like Kendrick Lamar more than most. He's actually got something to say. All the Stars with SZA is a great song that has been in my "current" playlist for years. But last night? Couldn't hear what he was saying (I don't know how anyone could have). Mostly, I just get so sick of all these massive productions with dancers and splosions. That was the end of the Super Bowl for me. Daughter and I found a movie on Netflix.

I love Kendrick Lamar and SZA so it worked for me. There was a lot of messaging in the performance too. He won a pulitzer prize and now 5 grammys, he is doing well.

I don't follow modern rap but thought it was interesting performance. I like SZA more than Kendrick actually, but I don't think her mic was even on last night ha, so that was lame.

Michael Jackson, Prince, Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, The Who, Madonna, Diana Ross, U2...............remember when the halftime performers were by musical legends of their time, I am out of touch with the younger generations music, but surely this guy is not the best that this current generation of music has to offer. Also, the drama of taking a cheap shot at another artist for additional publicity is totally classless as well as the dancer who waived a Palestinian flag that they supposedly knew nothing about, yet there were no consequences of any kind, it was all total BS - Not Like Him.

I saw close up pans of the crowd, didnt look like most in attencdance thought much of the halftime show either.

I think Prince was the last one I thought was really worth remembering. Thought Dre's would have been, but it barely registers already for me. In fairness, i didn't watch a second of this one so it wont make a memory for me.

Wouldn't want to do this to any football fans.

They can't play to a crowd. :)

That's just me tho

Maybe if they "out"  Dave Mustaine as a Pedophile, they'll rate?  (like this post, if you get the reference ;))

BTW, took my (Viking fan) son to USB last August for night two of Metallica, whilst visiting my mother/sister in Fargo.    Had a great time, USB is awesome.
Thought of you, P-faithful, I took the train from the airport hotel (advice from a long ago thread).

OK old man. I like all the artists you mention, but Kendrick Lamar IS the musical legend of today. He IS today's Michael Jackson or Madonna. His Super Bowl performance was the most watched in history. He's won 22 grammys, has had 5 number 1 albums, sells out stadiums everywhere he goes. Hell, he's even won a Pulitzer.

He wears on me very quickly, but I'm sure when Michael Jackson was playing Super Bowl half times there were old people like you and me saying "is this the best this generation has to offer? Where's Sinatra?"

I think this is this a chicken or the egg question. The halftime show did draw some extra that didn't watch the game which is interesting in its own right.  But the Super Bowl itself was the highest rated Super Bowl.  What percentage of those that watched the SB were like me and just didn't turn the TV off?  I don't have the answer to that by any means.  Just an interesting side note after all is said and done.

This is interesting. Basically the viewership trends upwards from 2011-2017. Then we don't have an entry that cracks the top 10 from 2018-2022. Then Rhianna, Usher and Lamar get the top spots from 22-25.

USB is truly one of the top experiences in the NFL now.

I'm more of a Kirk Hammett guy than Mustaine...

He and I share a love of all things monster:

I wish I had even a small % of his $$ to throw at toys.

That halftime show, and all rap and what passes for "R&B" nowadays is wasted on me. I'd rather watch that time in "Bad Lip Reading" comedy reels.

Signed and agreed on Hammett over Mustaine. I've covered both over the years, and Kirk's much more fun to play...plus, Dave's interviews made it hard for me to ever like his band, much.

You can have the monster stuff, I'd just like a few of the vintage guitars...!

This reply is absolutely drowning in sweet, sweet irony. You've named some of the most controversial and hated by olds music acts of the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's.

The Who: were so hated by the olds of their time for over sexualized and destructive behavior they wrote a song telling the olds to kick rocks. Lol, you've turned into what they were rallying against!

Michael Jackson: I mean take your pick for reason olds didn't like him.

Prince: olds saw him as hypersexual singing songs like "Jack U Off". Hated him for how he dressed, danced, who he dated. "Blasphemy" in songs. His religion. And largely because olds thought he was gay and pushing that "agenda".

Maddona: olds thought she was a "slut" singing sexually explicit  lyrics and getting borderline pornographic videos on MTV. She was hated for being openly bisexual and pro gay rights. Slammed for doing pro condom commercials. And man when she included a black Jesus in a video they really went after her.

The Stones: see The Who.

Didn't watch the game or halftime show, but when you've seen "Up with People" in those early Super Bowls of the '70's, even a shotgun blast to the face is an improvement.

...and yet, that all seems classier that wasting time on an immense stage to fuel an infamous beef with a rival.

Hard pass.

What a ridiculously petty thing to be bothered about. Oh no, one of the most watched annual musical performances has a large stage.

Hey, it's not my genre, and I freely state that. I'm just completely disinterested in his b****-fest with Drake or whomever. Not my circus, not my clowns.

Nice Grand National, though, to be fair. I'm old enough to remember when those beasts shook up the performance car standards at the time.
