I thought the rule changes made Darnold ineligible

I mean, how can there be anyone else up for this award besides Damar Hamlin?

I think the absurdity of Joe Flacco getting the award over Hamlin last year is why they changed the rule to be about returns from injury or hardship, so Hamlin has a decent shot at it if the NFL wants to correct that mistake.

The irony is that now that they've changed the criteria, there really IS a legit case to be made for a player who wasn't hurt. I think if you didn't clarify the rules and just asked AP writers off the cuff who the comeback player of year was, every damn one of them would say Sam Darnold.

K this made me laugh. That still counts as a comeback! Or does it? Idk. Hope Sam wins it if he wants it.

It's kind of a gray area to me with Sam. He played a hell of a year. But what did he come back from? He hasn't done anything up to this point to have it be called a comeback. Hamlin became the starting S this year after, essentially sitting last year from his horrific incident, and played really well. That to me is the definition of a comeback. You have to give Barkley the OPY award, so you can't give Sam that in replace of Comeback Player. In essence, he is the most improved player in the NFL with a bullet. But that is just it, most improved player is exactly what he was this year.

The one that really counts is the AP award, but the Pro Football Writers Association voted KOC as Coach of the Year earlier this week and has now voted Sam as Most Improved Player. I think this is the award that Baker Mayfield won last year.

Just referenced that above.

I don't see any way that Hamlin does not win that award or see how anyone could be more deserving, it would be an embarrassment for it to go to anyone else.
