Head coaching hirings
Lions OC Ben Johnson hired by the Bears.
That didn't take long.
I thought Johnson's comment might have been friendly ribbing between old friends. Apparently, that is not the case.
"Ben Johnson went out of his way to say Matt LaFleur's name in his introductory press conference. You'd think they are old friends or have at least crossed paths somewhere or have some coaching connection. Guess what? They're not pals. They don't have any history together. Brian Schottenheimer close to being named Cowboy's HC?I get that, but there's other ways to stoke it. I'm telling you, go watch 5 minutes of Johnson speaking: he's a bit of a weirdo. I'm all for rejuvenated rivalries, especially that one.
Schottenheimer wouldn't surprise me - known entity and knows he is way around Jerruh and the Cowboys.
Johnson video I watched was a little squirm worthy.
He could be just odd or he'll get better in front of the camera with more practice. Ive seen improvement with KOC, although he wasn't quite as "different" in the beginning.
I figure Eberflus cost them 2-3 games last year, so they really should be on the upswing with Johnson

I think Johnson was quoted at his presser as saying, 'he wanted to stay in the NFCN to beat Green Bay twice'.....not sure if this is true or not (you know, the Internet and all) but if it is, I don't get why you'd give a team ammo you play twice a year. Talk softly but carry a big stick. I watched just a minute of his presser, a little bit off via Adam Gase vibe.

On a "yay for us, but sorry for him" note, Flores appears to be out of head coaching opportunities ... at least for this year. I think he's an integral part of what the Vikings are building and I'm glad he'll probably be back. The Wilfs don't come across as cheapskate owners so I hope the organization recognizes Flores' importance and they pay the man.

Johnson is now smack in the middle of the grand-daddy of all NFL rivalries: GB vs CHI
He's working to get that moribund fan-base excited.

The #Bears requested to interview #Vikings passing game coordinator/DBs coach Daronte Jones for their defensive coordinator position, source said. Jones is highly respected having worked with defensive minds such as Brian Flores, Vance Joseph, and Marvin Lewis, among others.

- Liam Coen was the #Jaguars' top target for their HC position.
- He was set to interview on Wednesday, but then withdrew his name.
- The Bucs then offered him an extension to become one of the highest-paid coordinators in the league.

So what changed for Liam Coen? He got on the plane to Jacksonville after Jags' ownership called him directly and explained they will let him pick the general manager and would pay him "Ben Johnson" level money along with multiple years, per sources.

Ben Johnson is kind of odd. He brought up LaFleur twice. He didn't get much of a reaction either. People didn't know what to make of it. It was like trying to resuscitate the importance of the rivalry without backing it up. Time will tell how it goes

Liam Coen looks like a complete and utter scumbag in this scenario. Time will tell how that works out for him

I was wondering if he would get an offer or not.
I know he's in remarkable shape for his age, but he's still almost mid 70's.
It's an interesting direction for Brady and the Davis' to go.

Carroll signing a 3 year deal with a team option for a 4th.

Interesting hire being that he'll be 74 in September. Oldest coach in NFL history

Carroll is a physical freak, easily in better shape than most guys half his age. Surprised he would go there with Brady so involved, especially with them saying Brady will have a say in their next QB.
He was not at USC when Darnold was there, but he has always remained close to the school and actually has been teaching a class there since the left the Seahawks so sure he knows him well and wonder if he may have an interest in him.
The whole Liam Coen thing is a complete wtf.
Pete Carroll seems more like a figurehead hire at this point and of course his name and resume. It will be interesting to see how it works out. I could see Darnold in Vegas.

That team needs a direction and stability. They need someone to put a culture in place. I think that would be the motive behind this hire.
This got interesting with the Tampa OC as he signed a new contract with them but then backed out last minute when the Jaguars fired their GM and is now going to be the HC of Jacksonville. I think the rumor is nobody new wants to tie their wagon to Trevor Lawrence unless they get the bag....also, Baalke their GM was viewed as a major league asshole.

It'll be more about what staff Carroll hires, as Pete doesn't call the plays on offense I don't believe. He's a facilitator/manager at this point. He'll be 74 years old when the season starts, I don't get this hire but more power to him I guess. Maybe he works for 2-3 years and hands it off to whatever offensive coordinator he hires, that kind of deal and carrot for the OC. Sets the strategy for the franchise and then gets out.
The Cowboys are hiring Brian Schottenheimer to be the franchise's next head coach, per source.

He was a defensive assistant under Rod Marinelli on Jason Garrett’s staff for 2011-2017. He was most recently head coach of the Chicago Bears.
The Cowboys interviewed Saleh for their head-coaching position and maintained interest in him as next DC. https://t.co/ApFxND0uMQ

Cowboys interviewed Eagles OC Kellen Moore, former Jets HC Robert Saleh, former Vikings HC Leslie Frazier and had a conversation with Colorado HC Deion Sanders. In the end they hired their offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer. “He’s no assistant anymore,” Jerry Jones said.
