Jalen Hurts injury update

On Monday, head coach Nick Sirianni announced during media availability that Hurts remains in concussion protocol.

The quarterback has not been seen at practice since suffering the concussion in Week 16.

The Eagles rested their starters and played third-string quarterback Tanner McKee in Week 18 after clinching the No. 2 seed the previous week. They defeated the New York Giants 20-13 as they managed to win with most of their backups.
NFL concussion protocol rules

The NFL's concussion protocol is a five-step process that each player diagnosed with a concussion must clear before he can return to action.

Here are the five steps, per the NFL:

Symptom limited activity
Aerobic exercise
Football specific exercise
Club-based non-contact training drills
Full football activity/clearance

Philadelphia has not stated where Hurts is in the protocol. Although it is unclear what stage Hurts is in, Wednesday will be important regarding his availability this weekend. If he can’t get a limited practice by Thursday it won't be easy to clear the protocol in time for Sunday's game.

I think they should sit him down for the rest of the season.

If he can't go this week, they effectively will be. I bet it will still be a close game, but I think GB would ultimately beat Pickett.

Probably right. If I'm the Vikings I'd happily take the yellow team over the Eagles with Hurts. Without Hurts, I take Philly by a mile.

We would benefit from either the Packers or Commanders winning this weekend as we, if victorious versus the Rams, would not have to go on short rest to face Detroit off their bye.

We'd either visit Philly, visit Tampa, or host the Commanders if both teams win.

There was no reason for the Eagles to rush him back. They sat most of their starters last week. I think this was strictly hey he's good but we don't need to activate him yet thing.

LOL! That is 100% the correct answer! I can finally explain to everyone how I feel about the Packers.

On the Packers side, I wonder how serious the arm injury is with Love? The way he kept flexing his hand after throwing didn't look good.

Especially with how quickly they jump on their bandwagon the minute they do something semi notable.

The fact is the Packers are an above average team this season.  They were a blocked FG from getting swept by the Bears and the entire NFC North this season.

Jordan Love is not elite. Their defense is still flawed.  They have a good run game and a good coach and a QB who can make some big plays, just not consistently.

I dont have a good handle on Love...He makes some good plays but where is his ceiling? His durability?

If I am a Packer fan, I am in wait and see mode with him. They should be grateful they have LaFleur coaching him up the last few seasons.

I think Love is mid-tier. Not the elite top 5-7 type, but in the next 5-10 guys, the Kirko and Brock Purdy types.

Lafleur is a spaz....I really didn't realize that about him until this season. He's whiny, he's demonstrative play to play, yells at the refs constantly, very up and down. I'm sensing a low level rumbling from Packer Nation about his leadership style.

And as much as the national media desperately wants Love to be elite, he isn't.

Out of NFL concussion protocol, Jalen Hurts is ready to roll for the Eagles.

With Hurts back, the NFC East champion Eagles (14-3) should be close to full strength in the starting lineup for their NFC wild-card game Sunday against Green Bay.

''You always feel better when Jalen Hurts is on the field,'' Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said Friday.

The Eagles quarterback hasn't played since he suffered a concussion and left a Dec. 22 game early against Washington. The 26-year-old Hurts returned to practice this week, a sure sign he was healthy enough to make the postseason start. Hurts missed the final two games — where backups Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee led the Eagles to victories — but led the Eagles on a 10-game winning streak before he was injured in a loss to the Commanders.

The Eagles were a 4 1/2-point favorite on Monday to beat the Packers and had 7-1 odds to win the Super Bowl, according to BetMGM Sportsbook. On Friday, the Eagles moved to 5 1/2-point favorites to beat Green Bay.

There are five phases in the concussion protocol, with the final one clearance by an independent neurological consultant.

The Eagles are a legitimate Super Bowl contender with Hurts in the lineup and should have the upper-hand against Green Bay when it comes to healthy quarterbacks. Packers QB Jordan Love said this week his elbow — injured in the regular-season finale — was still sore, and he felt pain when he did some limited throwing in practice.

Hurts, who played late in the season with a broken finger on his non-throwing hand, threw for 2,903 yards this season with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions. He threw only one interception after the NFC East champion Eagles returned from their Week 5 bye. Thanks to the tush push, Hurts has 14 rushing touchdowns this season.

I just have to chuckle at all the national sports media picking Green Bay. I don't get it.

Its their unexpected wins in the post-season last year (especially at Dallas).
Very good regular season record this year

I think the media thought they were going to take "that next step" and what materialized wasn't quite up to those expectations.

If they beat Philly today, expect the drooling to continue.

Most are picking Philly, but it is surprising that 20% or more are going with the Packers. Any given Sunday and all that, but the Packers are nowhere near as good as so many in the media think they are.

Vikings swept them. Packers got some garbage points to make both games look closer than they really were, but the Packers were largely dominated in both. Unless Philly steps on their dick, they should easily beat the Packers.

Kind of hoping they do step on their dick. I would love to see the Vikings beat the Packers one more time this season!

Now that I would understand. But losing to Minnesota and Chicago heading into the playoffs and the droolfest has already begun?

I have to admit, choosing between watching the pukers go one-and-done with all the chirping their fans do online...it'd be sweet. On the other hand, being able to get a hat trick of wins on those clowns has a distinct charm....

KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....
