Its a win......and the D showed up big time. I'll take it:

Can't start anywhere but here, and as Viking's fans....you understand: John. Parker. Romo. Tip o' the hat, good sir. We're not used to that. And if you were able to watch the interview on the field with him right after the game, he's very easy to root for. Very happy for that dude.

Hello again, defense. Missed you.

The Vikings dominated on both sides of the football. 169 yards rushing. Overwhelming time of possession difference. Allowed 111 yards passing.

Raise your hand if you are extremely happy about having JJ McCarthy for 2025? Because Sam is going to Bad Sam. This might be the game that tips him over the edge and his play will be highly erratic from this point forward. You can't throw those kinds of red zone INTs. CANNOT. Vikings are merely a playoff team with Darnold's current play, nothing more. Winning despite your QB is a recipe for disaster.

This team sure as hell loves playing together, on both sides of the football. What a culture KOC has engendered.

Cam Robinson you are the man. Can't imagine someone coming in, replacing Darrisaw, and having the kind of games he's had in purple.

KOC mentioned in his post game talk about propping Sam Darnold up, we still believe in you, etc. He has to do that but its not good. He keeps messing up like this and WRer boys are going to bark a bit. Supporting is one thing, but sometimes you just have to pull your head out of your ass and play solid ball.

Caleb Williams: yikes

7-2 is awesome regardless. Another winnable game next week with the Titans (please, PLEASE let Will Levis start).

Goff throws 5 INTs.....and they win, lol.

Philly looks very good, wouldn't want to play them right now.
Interesting day around the NFL. Bad Kirk also made an appearance against the Saints. Nobody throws short of the first down marker more consistently to lose the game than Kirko. Losses by Washington and Atlanta helped the NFC cause.

I said it in a different thread, if JJ McCarthy was healthy... we would have seen him go in for Darnold this game.
Yep and I responded, totally agree. Fans are going to turn on Darnold now, its already happening online. If he has a stinker game at home, he's going to hear the chants for McCarthy, although everyone knows he's out until next season.
Listen, the Vikings are a good team. They even made history yesterday: no other team has not scored a TD and thrown 3 INTs and won. Ever. Its like 0-154 until this game. The only game this year where I saw the Vikings got outplayed was the Rams game. But you can't continue to win games despite your QB. The NFC has very strong teams for the top 5 in the conference. Sam is trending worse each game, not incrementally better. That shouldn't be the direction. Darnold now leads the NFL in turnovers with 13.

In addition to your observations, I thought that KOC's play calling was bad and he couldn't figure out the Jag's defense all game. I know Sam had the Lions share of blame and rightfully so, but KOC has to be better. Despite what he said in his post game speech, his play calling reflected a Head Coach who didn't trust his QB to make plays so he tried to hold his hand during the second half to manufacture a win. Especially late in the 4th when we played not to lose.
The Vikings had like 410 yards of offense.....it wasn't KOC's play calling. Minnesota dominated time of possession, most TOP by any team in any game this year so far in the league. It was 3 redzone INTs, period. Not sure why you'd go to blaming KOC here? But I will agree that KOC has lost trust in Darnold, how could he not? At some point, you have to turtle up from a game plan perspective a bit in the 4th to avoid another ridiculous and demoralizing redzone INT and losing the game.
"The #Vikings had the ball for 42 minutes and 44 seconds today against the #Jaguars, which is the most by any team in a game this season. Yet zero touchdowns were scored."

Sidenote: Did anyone notice Mac Jones being totally Mac Jones by taunting the Viking's sideline after his TD? lol, he's such a dumbass. I mean he went off celebrating and yelling at the Vikings. Dude, you're a bust. Relax.

It's not play calling guys. Darnold is bypassing easy completions looking to take shots downfield. He's not taking what the defense is giving him. There were multiple times the defense dropped coverage into coverage, no one was open downfield and he had an easy checkdowns to Aaron Jones 1v1 with a LB. He needs to hit the check down because that is a mismatch.
Darnold is the problem right now, not KOC. Shit, he had to call a jet sweep for Addison so he could finally touch the ball.
This. It isn't the play calling.

Good points...
Conversations about JJ starting? Maybe
Would they turn over the reins right now @ 7/2 to a rook? I would bet not.
But we'll never know...
Sticky, you better be right about the kid lol!
I'm right about him, belief will only come in seeing it, I completely understand. But this narrative that Darnold is a new player and worthy of an extension by Minnesota was never going to happen....mostly because Darnold was never going to stay consistent, even under excellent circumstances which he has in Minnesota. And the Vikings have big plans for JJM.

Bercich had an interesting perspective to share today regarding the passing offense;
DC's are now dropping 7 (sometimes 8) into coverage. That means the TE's have to feast and thats exactly what we've seen from Oliver and Oliver/TJH yesterday.
So they (the Vikings O) are going to have to balance that coverage reality with feeding JJ the ball. KOC loves to go downfield too and thats just gotten tougher - especially since those plays take a while to develop.
How do they balance getting your playmaker the ball with the coverages the D is employing?
Probably more sweeps, bunches etc...That isnt as scary as JJ catching one downfield for sure.
This is what fans who complain about play calling never take into consideration: what the D is doing. Its just if Play A worked, then its a 'good' play call. Way too simplistic a response, its more nuanced than that. And how do the players execute those plays? That's why you have to keep plugging with the process and not be results oriented every play. Fans micromanage and dissect every play, way too close to the trees to see the forest sometimes.
