A. Jones Status
The Vikings “avoided a long-term injury” with running back Aaron Jones, head coach Kevin O’Connell said Tuesday, but the bye week may not be enough time for him to be ready to play again.
Jones’ status for Oct. 20 against the Lions is up in the air after suffering a hip injury and leaving at the end of the first quarter of Sunday’s win against the Jets.
“I’d classify him as really ‘week to week’ at this point,” O’Connell said of Jones, who had seven carries for 29 yards and a 24-yard catch before exiting. “He’ll get treatment throughout this week.”
The Vikings intend to re-sign running back Myles Gaskin to the active roster and release tight end Robert Tonyan with the plan to bring him back on the practice squad, O’Connell said. The move provides depth behind Ty Chandler, who replaced Jones but found little production in 30 yards on 14 carries. Jones had a 32-yard run wiped out by an illegal shift from receiver Justin Jefferson.
O’Connell said he has “a lot of confidence” in Chandler, a third-year back with four NFL starts.
“Tough to lose some quality yards,” O’Connell said, “especially the type of game it was against one of the top defenses in the NFL. Thought there were some other runs where I think if Ty can get into a flow, into a groove, maybe we find a few more yards on them. But that’s all part of the process. I got a lot of confidence in Ty, really going back to last year.”
The Vikings outgained their opponent on the ground for the fifth straight week to begin the season. But Vikings running backs combined for a season-low 2.8 yards per carry against the Jets.

I think Chandler is a fine RB #2......but he's lacking in areas that Jones rocks.
Chandler's major flaw is impatience. He doesn't wait for the OL to set up their blocks. Rather, he thinks that because he's fast that he can simply outrun the DL & LBs. It's a flaw that you commonly see in speedy RBs.

I agree. He's also not the pass blocker that Jones is. But I think he does have good vision for finding creases. And if he finds one he's gone. If Jones has to miss the Lions game I'm no overly worried. Chandler's gotten a starters workload only once in his career and in that game he went for 157.
They just need to keep at the running game and eventually wear the defensive line down. Then Chandler can really start using his speed and gain good chunks of yardage.

Agreed, it kills so much clock too. It's a lot easier for us to blow these leads when our defense is insanely gassed in the second half because our offense is going 3 and out. But without Jones...
If Chandler and Gaskin are the guys we got versus Detroit, I foresee many pass plays called.

It's O'Connell....Of course there is going to be many pass plays called.
Seriously, I hope they can try and stay balanced on O against that DL. Dont get behind the stix too much.

We really need a change of pace power back, it has been a while since we have had a Leroy Hoard type and it is really hurting us in short yardage situations.
Couldn't Ham play that role?

Just wondered if anyone saw Jones ambulating after the game and if he either had a limp or crutches? Any clips of him coming off the field the last play he was in?
A hip pointer requires ice compression and rest. Often crutches and no weight bearing initially. Only listened to the game but there was no mention of an injury time out. So hopefully it's not a more serious injury. Hip pointer is only speculation but if so he should be back in 2-4 weeks.

He was at the Lynx game courtside last night....didn't see any crutches.
Was he limping?
2025 draft priorities: NT, CB, RB.
We probably should’ve kept Akers *shrugs*

Is that like twerking? Or...?

Post a video of twerking and I'll let you know!
Light practice yesterday coming out of the bye week but Jones was practicing today so I'll guess we'll see...
I still think he sits...at least for one game, just based on how much pain he was in. But maybe I'm wrong.
If it's just a hip pointer, I've had a hip pointer, and it hurts like a mother for about a week or two, then just goes away. But it's just a pain tolerance issue...at least it was for me. I don't think there's any chance of further damage.
Local news story made it sound like he could play since he practiced. That would be terrific if he's really ready to go.
