Kevin O’Connell: "As you look back at it, there were some opportunities in the pass game. It's an all-11 thing."

The more game videos I've seen this week of different views, different plays, etc. the more I see Darnold doing a mini-shit of the bed. 2.5 quarters of that Jets game was vintage old Sam Darnold. He played skittish and more concerning, I saw a few times him being afraid to pull the trigger on some throws. His progressions narrowed and so did his vision. KOC's quote above is about Darnold, but he's not going to say that.

I'm not saying Sam won't put this game behind or he won't play well, but I will say he opened the door to some low level whispering. The bye week should be a good thing for Darnold. The Detroit game will be the perfect time to reestablish himself and show it was just a lesser-than game and he's moved on. U.S. Bank will be ROCKIN'. Who's the better team in the NFCN? KOC just said Aaron Jones is week to week, but its not a season ending type thing. Fingers crossed he's back for the Lions.

But I hope I'm not seeing the beginning of the end of Sammy's run. Good guy, hard worker and talented. But he was available for a reason. Very glad that McCarthy is in the hopper.

But I was told it was all bad play calling...

Yeah, I know some fans want to take that route, but its usually not ever that. Its the execution. A well executed play is always popular, just by definition because its successful. But like KOC has mentioned, you strategize and the results don't always follow in a small sample size, but will over a larger one. Basic probabilities. But players still need to execute or even the most amazing gameplans won't cut it.

Guys were open on Sunday and sometimes Darnold missed them. More than he has all year.....probably by a large margin. But as I mentioned, its a small sample size right now (one game). But he has also has a history of playing well and then coming unglued. Not sure what it means yet.

Lots to currently be happy about: 5-0, but 3-0 in the NFC. 1-0 in the NFCN. That can be huge later if they hit a rough patch. You look at a team like San Fran, who some think will make a run here, but they are already 0-3 in the NFC. That could hurt them when it comes to getting into the playoffs with tiebreakers, etc. Lots of games left however. Shit can change quick. I think some fans have the belief that Sam can be the man, deserves an extension, etc. That was never going to be the case mostly because of what we saw Sunday...and what the staff saw briefly with McCarthy. The only way, even with a 5-0 start, for Sam to change the narrative for himself would be a great performance against Detroit. Or Atlanta. Playoffs. He needs to be consistent and he needs to be a guy that wins games in crunch time. He's got a hurdle, he's got a history and he'll be scrutinized harsher than others because of that. Darnold will bear close watching:

No,  no you werent.  Play calling as well as several other things we listed as possible issues.

Its not the play calling. Its the execution. Fans love to blame the play calling and live to defend their arguments with stats. This is Rodgers talking about B-Flo's scheme and why its so effective:

Aaron Rodgers on Brian Flores' defense:

"Very good scheme by him and the execution, obviously, is the most important thing. They have all the different looks with different guys, different spots. They can play (Cover) 2 Sky from it, they can play straight-up Tampa 2, they can play where the corners are the half-field players, they can bring everybody, they can play 1 high out of that, they can play 44 man out of that. They can do a lot of different things and it's a credit to how they practice and the flexibility they have with those players in those positions." (via

Its why KOC is looking for his QB to execute his gameplans the best: and that's going to be JJ McCarthy next year. B-Flo has his guys executing his gameplan at a high level, KOC needs his facilitator on offense at QB.
