Popular Pundit Pete Prisco Pessimistic about Vikings week 5

CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco believes the Minnesota Vikings’ nifty undefeated streak will end on Sunday.

Popular Pundit Pessimistic about Vikings for Week 5

Minnesota travels to London for a date with Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets and is expected to win by two or three points, per oddsmakers. But Prisco isn’t buying it, instead picking the Jets to win in a low-scoring affair, 19-16.

“The Vikings are undefeated and Sam Darnold is playing at an MVP level. But facing this Jets defense will be a real challenge,” Prisco wrote this week as the NFL enters Week 5. “The Jets offense was lifeless last week in the loss to Denver, and Aaron Rodgers will face a tough test from Minnesota’s attacking defense. His line had issues last week and will again here. It’s close but low scoring as the Jets take it behind their defense.”

Kevin O’Connell’s team also puts another undefeated streak on the line — games in London. Including an exhibition game decades ago, the Vikings are 4-0 in England.

Prisco is actually in the minority, too, with the Jets’ prognostication. According to NFL Pick Watch, a website that logs all experts’ predictions by week, 75% have picked the Vikings to topple the Jets.

Storylines for Vikings-Jets? A few exist. For the first time, Rodgers will face his former teammate, Aaron Jones. The new have a mutual admiration society for each other. Vikings-Jets will also pit two of the NFL’s best defenses against each other. Vikings QB1 Sam Darnold will face the team that drafted him third overall six years ago. He played against the Jets one other time, defeating New York as the Carolina Panthers’ starting quarterback.

Minnesota also hopes to rebound from a near-collapse last weekend at Lambeau Field. The Vikings sprinted to a 28-point lead in the 2nd Quarter — and later won by just two.

Sporting News also picked the Jets over the Vikings, 20-17. “The Vikings are sizzling at 4-0 and living off a lot of takeaways to facilitate the efficient play of Sam Darnold. The former Jets QB isn’t seeing ghosts anymore, but across the pond, he will face the fog of a tough Jets defense,” SN’s Vinnie Iyer wrote. “Aaron Rodgers will do a better job of protecting himself and the ball against his old NFC North rivals. This also will be a key rebound game for Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and the running game in a defensive-minded escape.”

The Jets have beaten the Vikings since 2010 and have lost three consecutive meetings against the purple team.

We're going to lose eventually. Just not sure it's this week, but the NFL is such a week to week league. Jets looked great two weeks ago and then laid a giant turd against Denver. Hard to say what'll happen.

If there is going to be a QB that can handle the vast array of looks and pressure that Flores dials up, its going to be a veteran like Rodgers, I expect him to be more of a challenge than what we have seen thus far this year from the QB position.

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

Pretty sure it’s not the QB having the problems, it’s his OL & WR’s mostly. If the OL can’t protect & the receivers aren’t where the QB expects, you end up w/ 5 sacks & 14 hits on Mr Rodgers. Looking forward to see how Sam performs against his former team in this one.

IIRC Rodgers calls his own protections, so if he sees it and can get them to account for it, it should give him more time than the previous 4 youngsters had.

Well, he’ll use his cadence to try & get those reads, however that was a huge part of the problem for them last week. His hard count worked better against his own team. Most likely they’ll fix their cadence, but their real problems lie w/ the fact that they’ve got an aging LT, a rookie RT, & an interior that was horrible.

Alliteration aside, Prisco has been on the Viking's bandwagon a bit, although he had them losing last week against GB. I think the media feels its time for Minnesota to lose one soon, so I expect them to trend that way. And the Vikings won't win them all. I think the Jets are capable of decent football, we might get the good version in London.

While a loss wouldn't surprise me, I don't think the Jets are as good a team as the Vikings. Jets were soundly beaten by the 49ers in week one and have since played close games against the Titans, Broncos and Patriots, three of the worst teams in football.

I suspect Rogers is experienced enough to mitigate some of what Flores does, but Mr. Youtube Science is no longer MVP Aaron. Garrett Wilson probably comes alive in this one, given that he's not facing an elite corner for the first time all year. They have two outstanding corners in Sauce and Reed, so Ginger Jesus will have to continue to take what defenses are willing to give.

Losing going into the bye always stings as you have 2 weeks to stew on that loss. OTOH, a loss to an AFC team is more preferable than a NFC loss.

An obvious point but the Vikings would loose if -2 in turnovers. Otherwise there is no chance in HELL!!
