yep, Darrisaw was getting beat and just pushed Hunter down as he was turning the corner on him, he maybe could have avoided the contact with SD, but thats not what is in a pass rushers brain as they are rushing the qB.

No it's not dirty, just a low tackle. It was legislated illegal not too long ago to protect QB's, but there is nothing dirty about it.

It was a penalty that injured another player. Draw your own conclusions.

Technically if the defender is blocked into the QBs legs its not supposed to be a penalty, its tackle football, lots of plays gets players hurt, its an unfortunate part of the game. IIRC we had a similar hit on Stroud that went uncalled.

Watch the YouTube above, it clearly shows Hunter grabbing both of Darold's ankles. Who cares what Hunter said after the play, he clearly went low even if he said he was blocked into Darnold. Hunter is full of shit and he should be fined for an illegal hit.

I don't think it was a dirty hit, but it's one he worried more about getting the sack than he did about the infraction. He had every opportunity to not tackle there just as a rushing d lineman doesn't need to hit the QB's helmet. Sometimes competitively you choose to do something that may cause a penalty. In a split second, he made that choice. The sack was more top of mind than the infraction.

I guess you're watching a different video than me.  Darrisaw is pushing him downwards in that video.  I guess you could say that Hunter didn't stop going for the sack.

We've watched Hunter for years.  We know he isn't a dirty player.  One play isn't going to change that for me.

while I agree that it was a flagged offense, it could have been one they let go because he was blocked into him, however I do agree that it could be a fined offense as well, we have seen countless DBs get fined for head and neck shots that are largely out of their control as the offensive player drops their head and shoulders to absorb the contact and are actually the ones that instigate the "head and neck" contact. same deal here, Hunter really shouldnt be expected to unwire his brain from "get the QB down" just because somebody on the other team else alters his angle of attack. the game is getting so ticky tack that its damn near impossible to still play it at a high level without take a few penalties, its to bad they can change the tone of the game at times.

Yeah, I agree with that assessment.  I'm perfectly fine with him getting a flag.  I can see him getting a fine.  You got to protect the QB.  I'm mostly referring to Hunter being called a "dirty" player who "intentionally tried to hurt" Darnold, which I think is ridiculous.

Exactly. But what impressed me about the comment was the comradery O'Neill and Hunter apparently still have despite now being fierce opponents--that it "stung" O'Neill when the crowd booed Hunter.
