"The former Vikings QB, making his much-anticipated debut after signing an expensive contract with the Falcons, put up just 10 points and did many of the things that frustrated fans when he was in Minnesota."

"Kirk Cousins' issues have already sent Atlanta Falcons' hype train off track"

Yikes. "For first impressions, what a nightmare.
The Atlanta Falcons supplied so much hope and hype in luring Kirk Cousins to town in March with a massive $180 million contract. For those type of bucks, with $100 million guaranteed on a four-year deal, prayers are supposed to be answered.
Instead, Cousins looked too much like his discarded predecessors, Desmond Ridder and Marcus Mariota, as he stumbled and bumbled during his debut in a Falcons uniform. What an embarrassment." - Jarrett Bell, USA Today

"We know he has to play better," Falcons coach Raheem Morris said, making his debut, too, with the 18-10 setback to the Pittsburgh Steelers. "There's no doubt about that. I look forward to him bouncing back from a rough game and a rough outing. I'm not overly concerned about it."- Head Coach Raheem Morris

Kirk Cousins is a robot.  He's not going to really do well off-script.  He'll take 3-4 games to really get things internalized and then he’ll be ok if his achilles is serving him.
He also doesn't do well with someone breathing down his neck (Penix). Going to be interesting in Atlanta from this point forward.

In our situation, this is addition by subtraction. For once, our crystal ball got it right. Good calculated risk Kwesi.  A gold star for you on this very important decision. Now before we get too cocky on the two headed future of Darn/JJM, let's just enjoy each game as it comes.  49ers are GOOOOOD. Daniel Jones is not Brock Purdy, that's for sure.
Not sure anyone's getting cocky in Vikingland, but Kirko stumbled out of the gate....that can't be denied. The NFL is a game by game league, today's hero is tomorrow's villain.....and vice versa.

At what point in his college or pro career has he struggled with someone breathing down his neck? Who were these players breathing down his neck? At both MSU and Washington he took the job from the incumbent or presumed starter. Twice in one season at MSU.  At MSU in 2008 Nick Foles was the assumed starter however the coach decided their should be a competition. Foles ended up transferring when 4 star recruit Keith Nichol transfered in from Oklahoma. Foles didn't want to compete. KC didn't bail because of some competition and won the job. In Washington he beat out RG III. Once he was named an NFL starter there was never a backup that remotely approached competition. So I don't get the weird competition from second string QB's wreak Cousins narrative.
CBS Sports: What We Learned Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins is not a cure-all. In fact, he may have held Atlanta back more than helped against the Pittsburgh Steelers' tough pass rush. Chalk some of it up to rust. But it's a situation worth monitoring.

It was a narrative that started on the board a few years ago, and then took on a life of its own. There was no basis for it. I cannot remember who, but they were saying it like, Kirk doesn't want so and so as a backup, because he doesn't like competition.  The people that disliked KC kept parroting it until it became a pseudo-fact. Now it is just a part of who KC is in the eyes of a lot of fans.
Well 2 organizations let him walk (Redskins and Vikings)...and this was after putting up decent to very good stats. There are narratives out there on Cousins that are true and false, but if Atlanta can't win the NFC South (a weak division) why would some of those old narratives change? Cousins has 1 playoff win in his career...take that as you will. I've been much more of a Kirko defender during his time in Minnesota than anything else. But it was time for him to move on.

Again, this doesn't address the actual topic at hand. What are these examples of KC struggling when he has someone "breathing down his neck" for competition?

The Purple Persuasion
@TPPSkol
This is EXACTLY why
@Vikings
GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah needs a few more years here, at minimum, despite a couple poor draft classes. Outside of that realm, he’s been ELITE.

He moved on from former #Vikings QB Kirk Cousins when HC Kevin O’Connell didn’t. Per
@DMRussini
, even the #Falcons know now he’s “not the same guy” ?

“I even had some conversations with people in the Atlanta building in terms of Kirk. So Kirk is healthy. Kirk is 100% recovered from the Achilles. But Kirk is also not the same guy at 36 years old coming of an Achilles injury. Fine line there and how we discuss it.”

I really think KC has to shake off some rust and is maybe fighting off some demons in his head with the achilles. Not saying his fine, but its way too early to toss dirt on his grave. Doesnt get any easier for them this week though lol. Kirko looks bad again? The spotlight heat will be really hot..
He's a vet and an excellent thrower of the football, so I totally agree....too early to judge hardcore. Atlanta plays at Philly, so he's going to feel the heat. I think most QBs had some level of rust last weekend.  I think another bad to subpar outing for Kirko is going to make things a lot tougher on a variety of levels. Philly can't lose enough for me, so go Falcons.

Fans and talking heads saying Kirk looks bad is one thing (he does). But if the team is worried internally... YOIKES.
If you listen to HC Morris's comments about Kirk's play week one, you get the sense there's worry. He said he didn't play well, straight up. Right after the game, Morris said about Kirko: "I'm not overly concerned". I thought that was kind of a big statement.  Here's my guess about what Atlanta is thinking: lets not overreact......but the low level concern is they think he might be a bit washed. Kirko has time to pull it out and be fine. Will he?
